Re: Weather
Sunny, blue sky and 9 degrees this morning, light SSW wind so no doubt rain on the way later.
Walk in to the nearest village this morning to post some Christmas cards then back to sweep yesterdays sand out of the van and do a bit of 'cooker door rattling' prevention.
Have a great day all

Re: Weather
This mornings walk was early because we decided to have breakfast out whilst doing a couple of errands. It was cold and grey about to rain.
By the time we got back from the post office, cards etc for Australia, it is now raining. It may be a good afternoon to batten down the hatches and chill out maybe get the tree and decorations up.

Re: Weather
We havnt got out yet but there’s frost on the shed roof so it might be a slippery walk with frozen puddles. The workshop roof looks clear so the heater must be working. Maybe it would a good idea to put the heater on in the Rienza for a while. Hopefully the latest storm will leave us out iff it comes from the west.

Re: Weather
The large house across from us had scaffolding erected last week. Yesterday during a snowstorm roofers arrived and removed all the slates. This morning they're up there removing the battens and old felt.
Sooner them than me, but I somehow think they could've chosen a better day...

Re: Weather
Still very mild down here 11 degrees but the rain is now horizontal and wind lashing in from SW to such an extent it is like fog. Really not a day to be going outside although the storm is forecast to pass late this morning down here. No obvious damage yet but b*ggered if I am going out to check!
Stay safe and warm.

Re: Weather
Extremely overcast with low lying thick looking fog in the Stour valley, never seen anything like it ! No bird life and a aerie silence hangs in the air …..
Might be something to do with the smouldering remains of the carpet factory that went up in flames yesterday morning ! Oh well I’m sure the feathered friends will return.

An hour from my last post and the sun is out, still breezy but the worst seems to have passed! Short and sharp then.

Re: Weather
The house next door had scaffolding put up last Friday ready for fitting solar panels but nothing has happened so far. With these grey days I can’t see them getting much from solar panels but they said they need them to help with the amount of electricity they are using to power there heat source pump.

Another storm passed and survived with no damage other than wheelie bins blown over. Much less rain forecast today so might get a chance to tidy up outside.

Re: Weather
We seem to have escaped the worst of the storm. We had some snow flurries around lunchtime and into the afternoon but it was washed away by rain. Hardly noticed the wind either, bit blustery by bed time but that was it.
Heading out later to have lunch with friends in the latest installment of celebrating the gardeners special birthday. Today I'm chauffeur so I will be indulging with soda water and lime

Re: Weather
It’s a very grey damp day here. We have had to have lights on in the house to cook breakfast and eat our bacon butties.
Management is off out with her friend today so me and muttly will get our walk over with and have a chill out day. I can’t even be bothered going out to the workshop. There’s nothing important to do and the decorating is finished so some thinking time won’t go amiss.

Re: Weather
Well that was a bit of a (very) damp squib. At 1000ft altitude we were expecting a bit of wind at least. Just a flurry of snow and lots of rain. Even the roofers across the road carried on all day.
I hope the forecasters don't start crying wolf and putting a name to every breeze that drifts across the Atlantic...

Re: Weather
It was certainly more than a bit of a a breeze down here on the SW coast Al, high seas and closed the railway line which runs along the coast, quite a few trees down etc. That said it passed remarkably quickly!
Still windy this morning with medium cloud cover and sunny breaks, relatively dry so a chance to look at the LED running lights on the van which are playing up.
Forecast is for more high winds so think I will leave the last clear up and mowing until it has passed.
Have a great day all.

Frosty crisp morning, bit slippy underfoot but nice walking weather. Quiet day ahead to chill out after helping daughter move in to her new house and before madness of Christmas starts. Will need to face the trauma of decorating the house with tinsel, baubles etc to keep SWMBO happy.
Happy wife, happy life

No frost but cold, dull and damp with more rain on the way later. Shopping this morning, I'm going to keep a cool and focused head so no required item is forgotten

I can't say as I've been to Cornwall in the winter months, but it certainly must be a different climate than here..
I did my last mow early October, it didn't really need it, since then the lawn has either been under a foot of snow or a layer of frost.. The mower won't be coming out again until late April at least!
7 months of no mow!

Re: Weather
Best time to be down here Al, we normally get a handful of frosts every year and very little snow, not the same story a few miles to the East though. We have some camelias out and first daffodils will be here by Christmas, mowing is a 12 month of the year job. We did have it cold enough about 10 years ago where the harbour froze and our boat was locked in ice but never since.bikeralw wrote:Mowing Hog!groundhog wrote:

Wind has dropped now, rain has passed through but it is noticeably cooler this morning at 7 degrees. Haven't had to put the screens on the van yet but sure that time will come along soon. May even get that mowing done today!

Re: Weather
It seemed a bit warmer this morning on our walk now the wind has eased off. It’s going to be cold tonight because the cloud cover has brocken. It’s still daylight after two rather than going dark early like the last few days.

Re: Weather
Heavy overnight rain cleared by 5, leaving lots of surface water on the roads, around 2+ with a north westerly, not as cold.
