Re: Weather
Happy St Piran's Day to all the Cornish out there!
Overcast morning, dry though and 4 degrees. Birds have nearly exhausted the sunflower hearts so another bag needs ordering along with fresh peanuts and fat balls. Hoping to get around to washing the van later but with a hosepipe ban it takes a bit longer.
Have a great day all

Think a lot of cafe/takeaway owners must be unhappy with the "maximum of 3 units" rule supermarkets are enforcing. Surprising how many use Aldi and Lidl rather than going to C&C's.
Take 8t easy
Sun trying to break through the clouds, cold wind blowing now, minds me of shopping in one of the supermarkets in Rothesay. The cafe owners would come in with their trolleys and clear the bread rolls from the shelves, despite having 2 good bakers in town. They left nothing for the shoppers, baw bags comes to mind.

There will be a few folk in the same boat around these parts today. The company that supplies Aldi, Lidl and virtually all the small stores with morning rolls, Mortons, has gone out of business.
I'm still trying to work out which birds are eating all the food in the feeders, we hardly see any but the stuff keeps disappearing. We can feel the air getting colder, hope we miss the snow and ice.

Re: Weather
Just back from lovely walk around Moffat, quick shower at lunchtime when we were eating in the van but has been dry since. Site slightly quieter today. We are off back home tomorrow and by all accounts may run into rain, sleet and snow
Tony, took your recommendation and dropped into Cafe Ariete. Ecclefechan cake was to die for. Thanks for the tip

Re: Weather
St Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall. Legend has it that he was out of favour with the Irish king Aengus and was cast into the sea off the cliffs at Munster tied to a millstone on a rough cold night.
The sea went flat and he eventually washed up in Perranporth Cornwall where he built in oratory on the beach. He lit a fire and accidentally discovered tin in the granite and was made the patron saint of miners. hence the flag of Kernow being black to represent the granite and white cross to represent the tin.
St Piran's day is a big thing down here and the Cornish are fiercely proud of the legend, many places the names begin with Perran, including where I live!
Something like that anyway.
I am only an incomer though, so feel free to correct me TW!

Just wished an ex crew member friend Happy St Pirans day. He lives at the end of St Mawgan runway. He'll have no idea where this cynic got that from!!!
BTW he too is an incomer, more correctly called, I believe, an EMMET!

Me, I rather like the Cornish coat of arms.

Re: Weather
Reminds me of the words from "Cousin Jack" TW..." now the English they live in our houses and the Spanish they fish in our seas" Great song, I think " Show of Hands" originally sung it.
Just to confuse things further Ian an Emmet (ant) is a short term visitor but an incomer is someone who has lived here for a while and pays taxes here, again, as far as I understand it. We have lived here for over 20 years now but will never be locals.
I have the chough and the crest on the back of the van, no miners or fisherman though.
Oh, its stopped raining, anxiously avoiding the F1 results so I can watch the highlights, go Fernando Go, great to see Aston Martin near the top!

Morning folks,
Been raining overnight but it's stopped now. 5 degrees and damp. Bit of shopping yesterday and our Lidl was fully stocked (maybe the folks round here prefer fried Mars bars to eating fresh fruit and veg )

Lovely drive home from Moffat after a fair bit of overnight rain. Currently 8 degrees with stiff breeze, clear blue skies with no sign of snow clouds to the north yet
Van performed perfectly, only issues were instant coffee left in van had solidified and forgot to pack new small green sponge for dishwashing..I just squirt some wash up liquid onto sponge before going to wash up area, saves carrying bottle back and forth

Brrrrrr!!!! It's cold this morning. This will test if your CH is working properly Tony, -2 with a heavy frost and possibly a light dusting of snow. Car will need to be scraped this morning. Make sure you and Tag are wrapped up well Boaby if it's like this in Bridlington (before you get home from your walk and dive back under the duvet )
Take care folks and stay warm.

Re: Weather
Laid here under the duvet in the van, the rain and wind last night was terrible, all quiet at the moment apart from the gulls.
No rain and no wind temperature is around 1 degrees with broken clouds and occasional clear sky.
Heating on 14 all night so toasty warm
