Re: Weather
Odd shower here, 12 degrees with a gentle breeze, forecast to improve later which is good as we plan to walk in to the local village with the Christmas post to Canada.
Also want to get the van washed if possible.
Thanks for the suggestion on the wall Boaby, it is block rendered and painted under a tiled roof. Two years ago neither we nor two builders could trace the leak so tanked the whole lot followed by blackjack around the weak points and then painted white. The roof and gutters have been cleaned and checked and there is a cantilevered balcony above the window which has been replaced and reset so it shouldn't be that either. Last year I replaced the roof verges as well and all the woodwork above. I am now thinking along the lines of the water coming UP the wall and getting in through the wall insulation so next task is to rod the drain from the gutter and see if that does it. only happens in a strong S wind and heavy rain?
Even been round the inside with a damp meter to find the wettest bits but no clues.
Total mystery, comes in window under the balcony as below.
Have a great day all

Re: Weather
Odd showers here too, GH, but nice to see the sun this afternoon.
Following on from your daffodils, we had a Red Admiral butterfly land on our window today. Yet another example of our crazy mixed up seasons.

16.20 and it is now dark here. Been a nice day and was quite pleasant out checking the van.
A gritter just passed on A94 Glamis Road in front of the house, and he was laying salt down on the road so looks like a cold one tonight

Re: Weather
Cold and dry start with broken cloud, down at 9°c so not too bad. Not much is likely to change for the foreseeable. Out to meet my brother to sort out all the important political and sporting issues of the day, so that's the first 5 minutes of discussion taken care of
Take it easy.

Only 3° here. If there was a frost it's already cleared with the sun on it.

Re: Weather
We bought a, sort of, newbuild in Wootton Bassett yrs ago.
It had been returned to the builders through the NHBCC warranty scheme for damp ingress.
Turns out it was an incorrect pointing problem, wrongly done by the builders (Can't recall how now this was decades ago and also didn't think pointing was a particular science.
Anyway it had all of its pointing removed and replaced with, presumably, the correct stuff, correctly applied.
It was then left for a year and was proven to be totally dry and waterproof, new NHBCC warranty so we bought it. a good buy and totally trouble free while we had it.
Not suggesting anything this extreme GH, but it surprised me how that one was bad enough for the builders to have to take it back and fix........
To stay on post however (!) it's typical high pressure weather here today, cold, gloomy, fog now gone, zero wind. 7c.

Re: Weather
Thanks Ian,
Had a new burglar alarm system installed a few years back and they fitted a new bell box over the spot where the old one was. I am wondering whether they didn't fill the old screw holes and water is tracking down the back into the cavity via the cable. Just another possibility to eliminate.
A little gloomy down here this morning but sun is doing its best to break through, half an hour or so should make a big difference. Want to get the van washed and put the screen covers on, forecast is for dry and chillier weather. Last of the leaves dropping fast now, another week or so hopefully that will be it.

Re: Weather
Another cold grey and misty day again here. This damp chill in the air is playing havoc with my creaky joints. After walking muttly mornings and evenings I don’t seem to have the urge too much else.
If it’s clears up a bit we might have a run out somewhere and have lunch and a short walk.

Another bright and sunny start and still around 8°c. Not a great time for the pump on your CH to pack in Guess I'll need to dig out the thermals.

Off to Sheringham to give the van a run, hasn't been able to move without its side window for weeks now.....
Gridwatch shows me that we are currently getting just 6.6% of our current electricity demand from wind, and 0.27% from solar. Earlier this week we were generating more from COAL than all renewables combined! That's UKPLC, not just East Anglia!
If interested google Gridwatch Templar.

Re: Weather
Happy St Andrews Day!
That is very interesting Ian, never seen that before.
Lovely sunny day here, not too cold, managed to wash the van yesterday which was good as the dreaded green mould ( attacks everything down here in the Winter) was beginning to appear. Ran a big dehumidifier inside for a couple of hours and extracted a t least two pints of moisture, probably half of it from outside the van.
Late night shopping in Truro tonight so off to the big city so I am told, only on the promise of a hot chocolate though.

Cold and no wind here either but it's dry so far. Really dull and overcast at 7°c right now. Shopping day for us.
Good news on the CH front, our retained heating engineer (well he's here so often it seems like it) said everything was working normally. He suspects either an air lock or gunge in the system. Whatever we have heating again

Great news on the CH Tony.
Clear blue this morning after a bright moonlit night, 11 degrees so best head outside and get on with more leaf collecting and grass cutting.

Thanks folks, that what was worrying me Boaby. We can probably get by with the various electric heaters we have but I suspect a decent lottery win would be needed to pay our next bill. They are going to try flushing the system and, if that doesn't work, we might need to get some of the pipework replaced. Think we're buying a new ch system by installments
Our dry morning quickly turned to horrible smirry rain. It's gone off again but it looks pretty miserable out there.

Cold misty afternoon, wife put a wash out to dry, brought back in 6 hours later, just as wet, trying to avoid using the tumble dryer, no chance.
We are about a mile from the coast (as the gull flys) and we feel the chilly wind of the sea.

Re: Weather
Cold and heavy cloud, currently 6c with temperature not expected to increase from that today.
Local park run group have posted on Facebook this morn8ng that waters have finally receded around Forfar Loch following flooding a couple of weeks ago, rugby pitch now back to mud rather than water. CMC have received planning permission to change 10 grass pitches at Forfar site to hardstanding and 10 hardstanding upgraded to serviced. Will no doubt increase average cost per pitch per night
