Yes looks like you were out of the predicted area. All North Wales and down the west coast of Wales together with northwest England and Scotland. Still blowing a gale here but nowhere as bad as last night.

Blowing a hoolie here and has been all night. The gusts are really strong but it should ease this afternoon.

Windy with hail and rain overnight but not as bad as expected, still heavy showers of sleet and sunny periods now, 6 degrees so not really cold.

Re: Weather
We had some strong winds last night but today it's calm and bright. No rain or snow but it's bitterly cold and down to 3°c. Lots of indoor stuff to do so, including making a large pot of Minestrone

It was a bit wild taking muttly round this morning. Not much rain but very windy.
I discovered an issue this morning I hadn’t planned for. Think me it’s waterproof coat and woolly hat weather. My coat was were it should be but for the life of me I couldn’t find any of my gloves or woolly hats. :scratch head:A sudden burst of inspiration I thought they must be in the Rienza. Slight problem as it’s not here. It looks like the walks will be chilly until Tuesday when it comes home.

Re: Weather
Well here somewhere in Yorkshire from the snow I saw, winter 2021-2022 arrived at about 3.20am this morning. It was mighty windy last night yet this morning an oak tree near us still has many leaves still to float off free. We have one brown bin collection this year, how many leaves we have to pick up remains to be seen.
This morning I connected up EHU to power a small oil filled heater that I've moved into the van. There's no water in the system, just some in the Thetford toilet which I want not to freeze. When we had a Duetto the toilet flush did freeze but without any long term damage.
Merry Christmas.

Horizontal sleet hitting the rear patio doors, wind hasn't stopped all day, looks like it's on for the night too.

Don't you have a flat cap? I thought everyone north of Exeter wore a flat cap until you get to Scotland then they wear a beret?IanH wrote:Quite a few Lincs shops sell them I believe , even on Sundays!Dave 418 wrote:It was a bit wild taking muttly round this morning. Not much rain but very windy.

Re: Weather
As much as I would go and get a woolly hat we are locked down until management goes for her appointment on Monday.
Yes I have my flat hat, £6 from Skipton market. It would need nailing on this morning. Things had calmed down by evening walk time so it stayed on. Even with my fleece and big coat it felt blooming cold.
It’s not often our Rienza is tucked up indoors during bad weather. We were in Thornton le Dale during the mini beast from the east and Deepdale for storm Dennis. I hope it’s tucked up nice and warm.

Calm frosty morning with promise of a nice if chilly day. Beanie hat for me as well for same reason as Boaby. Thought berets were for the French and artistic types near St Ives
Nice local organic chicken in the fridge to be cooked later with all the trimmings. Might even make some Yorkshire's.
Have a good day.

Light dusting of snow on the ground this morning after a lovely day yesterday, bright enough to get a washing dried outside in the sunshine. The sky looks dull and heavy so I'm guessing there's more snow on the cards.
Thinsulate beanie and gloves for me too for the same reason, bonus is it stops my ears flapping in the high winds

Calm now here, sun out early on but clouded over now. No frost despite warnings of temps of -3 overnight. All fence panels blown down yesterday are broken up ready to go to tip but off down Black Country for granddaughter's 2nd birthday today.

Re: Weather
Lovely autumnal morning here with a bright cold start. You wouldn’t think there’s been a nasty storm apart from what I have seen on the news. In all the years we have lived here we have only had a couple of really bad winters but being retired now we can just sit back and let the bad weather take it’s coarse. Breakdown work in the winter was challenging at times but it was part of the job so I had to put up with it.
It appears I have started a headgear fashion thread since my mention of not being able find mine. Today’s walk will only be short because I ache after the spell of decorating so I will manage with my flat hat.

Re: Weather
Well we had a tough day yesterday, we woke to about 8 inches of snow and freezing temperatures, but worse than that, no electricity! You don't realise how much relies on it, although we're on mains gas, obviously the boiler won't work, but neither does our all singing and dancing gas fire. The gas hob relies on mains spark ignition, easily replaced by a match or lighter, but try finding one of those when neither of us smoke...
Eventually, before we froze to death, I managed to rig up a battery pack in order to light the solenoid operated gas fire, so we had one room cosy and warm. Matches were found to light the hob. So breakfast was about lunchtime.
Squaddy washes from kettles of hot water.
Still no power as it went dark, so all Christmas candles, torches, and even an old paraffin lamp were pressed into action...
Eventually at 8pm, after over 12 hours, power was restored..

Re: Weather
Feel for you Al, no chance of decamping in to the van?
Still and overcast this morning, rained a bit overnight but the storm seems to have mainly missed us. Normal Sunday morning beach walk is off though as want to get some other jobs finished today if possible.
Now the headgear, same as Tony a thinsulate beanie for when it is not too cold but a trapper hat and hot paws for when it gets .
Have a great day all

That was on my mind Hog, and as a last resort we would've if we hadn't got the house gas fire going!groundhog wrote:Feel for you Al, no chance of decamping in to the van?
Events like this does make you think of keeping an emergency stash of things handy.
Proper non-drip candles are on my list now.
Oh, it's started to snow again.

Re: Weather
Just been over to Weston-on-Trent for lunch with friends. Yesterdays snow on our Estate roads had frozen overnight but when we got out they were fine. It started snowing quite heavily about 30 mins before we left so return trip on A50 wasn't pleasant.
I returned by a different route, leaving the A50 at Uttoxeter and coming through Tean - miles of black ice under fresh snow fortunately everyone driving with great care. Forecast -4 tonight so if they don't get the gritters out those driving to work tomorrow ar going to have a difficult time.

Re: Weather
Having had a small amount of snow overnight and BBC weather forecast implying the worst was over, it was a surprise this morning when standing at the supermarket's checkout this morning with my son I looked out to see snow falling. On the way back to our homes it was coming down thick. It put down far more this morning than overnight. Tonight 7pm and it's been freezing for some while, the thermometer in our van I see is at 5C, helped up by our oil filled electric heater. Our bottle of Pickpoul de Pinet was kept in there...cheers
Anyway I should know better but I don't trust the weather forecasts to be that accurate.

I thought we were doing ok with this present weather until this evening. When we set off for our evening walk there was a light covering of snow and the pavements were sheet ice.
By the time we got back my hips and back were hurting trying to walk on the ice. Muttly was a bit confused but kept going. Considering he is supposed to be a Carpathian Mountain Sheep Dog there can’t have been much snow in his part of Romania.
