Hi Kandrsvan
If you do a search, there has been several suggestions posted on here.
From bits of bent wire holding carrier bags to rails, through to fixing bins to the hab door.
Good luck, I'm sure you will get some good ideas.

Re: Kitchen waste bin
Hi there,
We just use a small pedal bin from Argos.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
It doesn't take up too much space and stays put on the move; plus the inner bin can be used to empty the waste tank if needed.
Best regards,

Bin suggestion
Thank you for the link...I have one at home.. Good idea and I like the idea of using the inner bin as a mini bucket too! Things need to be dual purpose in a van with less space!!

And another thing...
Re above, as bin sits by rear doors, does that mean that most people rarely use those doors? Being new to a van type layout, we have only had one outing so far and finding our way as it were:)

All too posh for us, simple carrier bag hooked over rear door handle.

Re: Kitchen waste bin
The carrier bag system worked perfectly in our last van, hooked over the door handle. The new one has a Brabantia bin built into the door which seems to be kicked, knocked etc and falls off at regular intervals - have screwed the base back onto the door a few times, the last time using a bit of sikaflex in the screw holes. Carrier bag did not look too pretty but it worked - the bin is basically a receptacle for the carrier bag anyway

Re: Kitchen waste bin
Carrier bag hooked over the door lock button works for us as we only rarely use the rear when on site.

With two bikes hung on the right-hand door we regard the rear entrance as "emergency only".
Best regards,

We used to have one of these on the inside of our hab door:

However we found the lid fouled on the under sink cupboard door when we modified it to centre hinge (that's another thread!) so we changed it for one of these:

which is more compact and will also take plastic carrier bags.

Re: Kitchen waste bin
Lots of ideas thank you! In our last camper I had simple hooks near the kitchen and used thin fabric bags ( like you often get free with mags etc) to hide the plastic carrier bags inside. We are trying to avoid making screw holes for hooks so need to see where they could be hooked on if we go that route. Will report back after our next trip!!

More thoughts..
Thank you for links to various bins.. I guess I don't want to give up precious cupboard space to house the bin. The cupboard under the sink already has a paper towel holder attached to the inside of the door and surprisingly useful...who would have thought!!!

We use a black collapsible bin from halfords that fixes with Velcro around the headrest of the front seat

Re: Kitchen waste bin
Here's hoping that none of the carrier bags you may try have those holes in the bottom installed to stop children being suffocated.kandrsvan wrote:Thank you again for further ideas...I will report back after our next outing
It is a whole new sensation in pain to carry out the rubbish and see that you have just dribbled a stream of something nasty across the carpet!
This is why we use bin-liners and all carrier bags are dumped after they have been emptied.
Best regards,

Bags with holes
Well Dutto that was a stout reminder of the perils of supermarket bags! Actually I have very few as I try to shop with reusable ones!! Good reminder then to use bin bags and decent quality ones too:))

Re: Kitchen waste bin
We only take hole-less ones with us (Tesco ones no good, Iceland ones good and bigger) for use as waste bins but as we live in Wales, were you have to pay for all carrier bags, there is often a shortage in our house so we have a roll of pedal-bin liners with handles (thick ones) in the van as back-up. We try to make up for the shortage when we shop outside of Wales by getting a handful at supermarkets.

After trip report
Hello all recent commentators!
We have just returned from a very windy Cornwall and I can report that in the end we used 2 hooks from Halfords which hooked over the rear curtain rods and used 30L bin bags with tie handles for rubbish. Bought the bags in the local Co-op and they were perfect. No holes in them and they were sturdy. Thank you all for your suggestions various.:))
Looking forward to next trip!

Re: Kitchen waste bin
We use a little tilt-top plastic bin lined with carrier bags and move it around the kitchen as required, then into the bathroom whilst travelling. It has another less obvious function however. When driving too enthusiastically, and therefore using too much fuel, it audibly tips over at which point we always comment "There's the bin". I then slow down.
I reckon the bin has saved us £££s over the years!

I've got one of those "You are going too fast!" gadgets.
Good news is that I am consistent. The same gadget has never said "You are going too slow!"
Best regards,
