RCD/Master Switch
Hi all. Wonder if anyone could help us? We have a 2007 Peugeot Autosleeper Symbol. The RCD is in the cupboard under the cooker housing. We are very new to this so wonder if we are being overly cautious by switching this off before attaching the EHU at home, should we just be switching off the Masterswitch on the board above the back doors? Any info would be welcome.
Thanks

Re: RCD/Master Switch
IIRC you are following the correct procedure, as described in the factory manuals for a van of that age. But... IMO it's not really necessary!
I've never heard of anyone coming to any harm by disobeying and leaving the RCD and MCBs switched on all of the time. I've owned various camper vans over a lot of years and I never turn off the RCD or MCBs when plugging into or unplugging from EHU! It has never caused any problems at all.
I should add that the one good thing that might be the main reason behind the recommendation is that it should encourage owners to test the RCD each time they use it. I am sadly negligent in that respect...

Re: RCD/Master Switch
Hi
Not sure if your 2007 Symbol is the same as our 2008 model but if you have an 240V electric/gas Truma water heater or any other 240V appliances such as fridge etc than it is worth checking that they have been switched off otherwise you may be wasting energy heating water or cooling the firdge without realising.
On our van I switch off all the 240V circuit breakers under the cooker (not the master switch) other than the one that feeds the battery charger when connecting the EHU at home.
Hope that helps
