Project 2000 Step removal/fixing
I managed to scrap the underside of our electric habitation door step on a curb coming out of a campsite. The step has not operated properly since, it will come out but when it tries to go back in it twists slightly and jams. If I guide it back in, to keep it straight, then it is fine. There is very little sign of external damage, just a few light scratches on the underside.
I tried talking to our normal motorhome repair person who said it would need a new step without even looking at it. Now call me tight fisted, or maybe just not wishing to send the step to landfill without trying, but I would like to see if it is not something that can be repaired.
My questions are two-fold;
Not sure if it makes any difference, but the van is a 2016 Warwick Duo. I am guessing the step was an original fitment as we are the second owner and there is no record amongst the paperwork we have of the step being replaced.
I'm kicking myself now for not taking a wider turn out of the site, but I guess it could have been worse.
Any help or advice would be welcome

My questions are two-fold;
- How easily can these steps be removed? I see some long studs with nuts on the end, looking a little rusty, and a cable that disappears up into the floor. My hope might be that some WD40 on the nuts would do the job, but can the cable be easily removed? I only have basic tools and no access to a garage with a pit or lift to get underneath.
- Has anybody had any success in repairing this sort of thing, or is the motorhome might right and I should give it up as a bad job?

Easy enough to remove, dismantle and reassemble, should be four wires to disconnect, follow the loom from the back of the step to where it passes through the floor, connections will probably be in the van above this point. I’ve just replaced mine as a gear inside the gearbox shattered, this was caused I think by the step jamming so be careful using yours as it sounds like it’s jamming. The instructions with the new step state the runners ( you’ll understand when you take it apart) should be regularly lubricated with grease.
