Re: Weather
Went out for a wander, the rain has cleared the frost but our pavements and some roads are still very icy, guess the ground temperature will take a while to rise

Re: Weather
4 degrees but like an ice rink at the moment, recent shower of sleet which has just frozen causing chaos according to the local village facebook page. Supposed to be going to help with Santa arriving in a horse and cart this morning but not sure that will happen unless things change PDQ. Horses plus sheet ice doesn't sound a good combination to me!
Sky looks like it could do anything right now, some breaks so maybe the sun will come out or it may just chuck down a load of sleet again.
Take care out there everyone!

What a difference a few miles makes, GH. It's much milder here now the wind has swung round to the south.
Good luck with the horses.

Re: Weather
Not wrong there TW, warming up here now, decided the horses could look after themselves, any self respecting Santa should be using reindeer anyway!
15 minutes after the above post now blue skies and bright sunshine...remarkable.

Re: Weather
It looks like the cold snap is turning here with light rain this afternoon. Thinking the ice had gone from the paths nearly caught me out on tonight’s walk. I turned the corner at the end of the street and nearly went end over apex. Muttly must have wondered what I was doing.

Re: Weather
Gauge at 1°c but there is a light scattering of snow on the ground. Sky is full of dark clouds and we have a weather warning for more snow, freezing rain and ice over the course of today before we get more rain later. Need to head out this morning so I hope to get my business done before the worst of hits.
Take care all.

Re: Weather
Quite a big forecast of freezing rain for the north and midlands today, thankfully it is rare in UK. We had a croft in Scotland and used fixed electric fencing. the wire was High tensile galv steel and was extremely tight. One day we had freezing rain and it formed a near perfect cylinder around each wire if you think of a cross section. it was 1" diameter. The way we knew was that looking out of the kitchen window there were great sort of semi circles between each post, more or less touching the ground, this was very tight HT wire remember! When it thawed, everything was back to normal!
The power lines (we were at the end of the line) didn't survive and we next saw mains electricity 12 days later......
Pic of similar but not as dramatic as my fence!...
Still v cold here, -1c at 0900, still very little wind. Allegedly that's going to change later today and looking at 12c tomorrow!!

Re: Weather
The snow and freezing rain never materialised here either yesterday, at 7am it's 9°c, mild and dry outside. We have blustery rain forecast for later today. Hope the CH guys get here early to do their magic and get our system flushed. Only problem is.......I don't believe in magic
Take care folks

Re: Weather
Good luck with the CH Tony.
Very windy down here, rain eased off a bit but still managing to find a way through the lounge wall when it blows from the South, the mystery continues. Mild at 14 degrees which is good so no heating on at the moment, 18.5 degrees indoors.
Have a great day all

Re: Weather
A very different day here at last. It started grey and certainly a bit warmer until lunch time then the clouds started to break up. Whilst I was having lunch the resident squirrel turned and started digging in our pot plants. To my surprise it has a mate. The second one is bigger and more agile. It jumped from the cherry tree across to the silver birch, about ten feet.
Maybe there’s love in the air for our squirrel.

Re: Weather
CH is no better but we did get a radiator replaced because it sprung a leak when the guys were working on it We are all baffled, the heating guys are baffled about what the solution is and I'm baffled about why I employed them
7°c and showery this morning, lots of broken dark clouds so it looks like more rain is on the way for later.
Take it easy.

Re: Weather
Must be frustrating Tony, at least outside temperature up on last week. Hope solution isn't far off.
Similar weather here. Improved enough that I can have the pleasure of emptying toilet from wxl after it's weekend trip to Glasgow. Should be last time it needs emptying this year.
Have a good day
