Heavy downpours through out the night,to much surface water to take Tag out for a good walk.
Brighter now suns out and milder.
Have a nice day, hope you get your ch going Tony.

Re: Weather
Sorry to hear the CH is still on the blink Tony, has to go wrong at the worst time of the year doesn't it. Hope you find a solution soon.
Been a really nice day down here today, relatively warm and a good deal of sunshine. Managed to get in to Falmouth to get a few things done, gave the van a good airing as well. Finally, had another really good look at the leaky lounge window and really hoping after another modding of a door seal on the floor above it I may have a cure. Only time will tell. Need a full blast southerly with heavy rain to find out now.
Have a great evening all

Re: Weather
6°c this morning and showery, bit like yesterday. Looks like there will be little change over the next few days. Still having lots of fun with the delivery folk, very seasonal "it's on its way", "oh no it isn't", "it's been delivered", "oh no it hasn't"
We have 11 radiators and some are not heating at all, some are lukewarm. My dilemma is, do we stick with the guys who know the system inside out but haven't been able to fix it or do we move on to somebody new who will need to start from scratch

Re: Weather
Shortest day.
Weird expression when you think of it, all days are 23hrs and 56 mins. (Also a bit weird when you think of it, but we have the fun of leap years...)
Should be shortest dayLIGHT day!
Once got stuck at Thule AFB in north Greenland, for a week. Total 100% darkness and -26c unvaryingly the whole time...
So much warmer and more pleasant here 8c already this morning and a hopeful sunrise, walk to town this morning (all of 800m!)

Tony, Einstein said if you do what you always do, you will get what you always get. May be time for a fresh pair of eyes. Good luck finding someone before Christmas holiday though.

Re: Weather
Tony - we had a leak from one radiator so had the valve replaced, after which the two radiators furthest away from boiler were stone cold. We have 10 radiators. Apparently the radiators should have been 'balanced' after the repair but British Gas (subcontracted to Dynorod for plumbing repairs) didn't. Googled the problem. Turned off every radiator in the house by closing the thermostat on each one (one cannot be closed) except for the two cold ones. Then bled the two, and waited, hot water forced through to the far ones before opening thermostats again and been fine ever since. Got to be worth a try.
Very heavy rain during night, now dry but dull.

Re: Weather
Definitely warmer here again today. The Hive thing on the wall said it was 19 degrees in our hall last night. I know we havnt got to the normal snow season ie January or February but this weather will do for now.
After muttly has had his walk a visit to Sainsburys is planned for some bits daughter wants for lunch on Christmas Day. She is working up to Christmas Eve. Hopefully it will be a quick shop I would prefer to go across the road to Lidl because it’s never as busy.

Re: Weather
Exactly the same here Paul, except we have 26 of them , balancing and bleeding that many was trial and error and took a lot of patience. Turned them all off except the main flow one and the one that didn't get warm, pumped the water through to shift the air and the faulty one started getting hot. Fine now.Paulmold wrote:Tony - we had a leak from one radiator so had the valve replaced, after which the two radiators furthest away from boiler were stone cold. We have 10 radiators. Not needed today, blue skies and sunny, 14 degrees, Lady G has just hung out some washing so hope it stays that way.
Best get on and do a bit of clearing up outside otherwise I will be getting told off.

Re: Weather
Thanks for the advice folks, it's appreciated. The CH guys (and their boss) did try to balance the radiators but didn't succeed. Despite that it does seem like it's worth trying again (nothing ventured etc), so we will.
Horrible cold rain and pretty windy outside, we had a go at doing our food shop today and it appears so did everyone else

Re: Weather
4 degrees and gentle wind, clear nightvwith nice day promised.
Van hooked up to electric last night and fridge switched on to increase chilled storage capacity for extra few days. Turkey etc pick up due tomorrow morning then don't intend to go out till after Christmas.
Sitting contemplating life in downstairs cludgie last night when I heard what sounded like rain, but no clouds. Still present this morning so will need to investigate once daylight arrives, suspect overflow from cistern in upstairs bathroom is dripping.
Have a good day

Re: Weather
Yes, when you own a house who needs a hobby
Loks like a quiet day outside, bit dull but dry and 7°c this morning. Got a few bits to pick up at the shops but we've collected the main stuff. People were shopping like headless chickens yesterday, do you remember the toys that were wound up then spun and shot off in random directions
I had a go at the CH, turned all rads off except the first and the one furthest away that was stone cold, half an hour later is was very hot, I slowly turned on one rad at a time until there was some heat in them all. The one that was cold was back to being cold again I might try again but SWMBO is getting pretty fed up.

Re: Weather
Hmmm, so the system seem to be running freely so theoretically it can't be the TRV valves on the rad as it is getting hot which would indicate ( in my very humble opinion) either the pump is not sufficient or the boiler is not producing enough hot water. Word of caution though, when we had a similar issue we had the pump replaced for an industrial one and it made no difference whatever. Have you tried temporarily turning up the water temperature to see what that does? You must be getting well hacked off with it by now, hope you find a solution soon.
Grey and dismal down here, dry so far but heavy rain forecast for later but at least it isn't cold, currently showing 14 degrees on the outside thermometer. For once looking forward to heavy rain and a strong southerly so I can see if my leak fix has worked!
Not a lot else planned for the day, maybe a bit of inside window cleaning, how did we ever have time to go to work?
Have a great day all

Re: Weather
RE Central Heating, just a thought, how old is the installation and has it been flushed? When my step son bought a house about twenty years ago the heating was poor. We found that all of the radiators were full of sludge - so bad it was easier to replace than clean out.

It started grey and chilly on our morning walk but by the time the window cleaner got here it was drizzling and yuk. I think it will be an afternoon in the workshop with the heater on. As far as I know my festive duties are on track unless management has some thing she thinks I have forgotten.

Re: Weather
Feels very mild here although the gauge is still at 7°c, there are even swarms of midges in our garden.
Thanks for the replies, Peter the syster is old but the boiler, pump and motorised valves are relatively new. We had the system flushed last week after being filled with some "powerful" chemical treatment. A couple of the radiators are clearly not working properly, and after having several fail in the last two years, we're getting most replaced.
GH, our initial thought was the pump had failed but the guy (we trust most) checked that, the boiler and valves and said they were all working normally. Just going to have to live with it until next month until the workies come out of hibernation

Still and peaceful night, 3 degrees, sunrise at 8.47 so noticeable improvement on 8.40 a couple of days ago.
Off out to collect meat order from butcher and pick up a couple of other things, then time to pull up the drawbridge on BB towers and escape from the madness until after boxing day.
Hope everyone's plans work out as envisaged

A dry night but very foggy, the fog is now lifting which I am glad about as a 110 mile round trip for the Better half’s hospital visit for her monthly MS treatment, call at the butchers on the way home then it’s time for a beer and a mince pie

Drop in the temp to 4°c, dry now but there's rain heading our way from the south for later. Good news is it will heat things up to 6°c All shopping has been done, if we've forgotten anything it will stay forgotten.
When this is all done I certainly won't miss the diet of US "CrizMiz" films on TV, bit to much sugar for me. Not sure if the beeb is playing games with us, they already had Summer Holiday on and tomorrow it's Easter Parade

Re: Weather
It was an excellent decision not to go back to the family in Canada this year, currently -27 in Calgary with a wind chill factor up to -55 in Southern Alberta. That is dangerously cold.
Much better here in balmy Cornwall, 14 degrees at the moment with a light breeze. Back from the early shop for us too, busier than normal but plenty of stock and really quite bearable
Next stop Landkey in Devon for Christmas and as long as we want really, it will be a proper old fashioned Christmas with our son and family in their traditional cottage. Doubtless a hikel on Boxing Day come rain or shine.
Don't want to see another shop now until 2023!

For those with CH woes and plumbing in general, I can recommend the plumbers forum as a good source of everyday information -
www.plumbersforums.net . Even if you don't have an existing problem, it makes good reading.
