27 degrees in the shade,no breeze, next door neighbour, one down has solar panels on his roof, I showed some interest in them last year, he called me in yesterday afternoon and showed me how much power his panels were transferring to the national grid.

Re: Weather
I've resorted to closing the blinds at the back (South facing) of the house to keep some of the heat out. Despite sleeping at the front of the house, last night was very uncomfortably warm, even with windows open.
Interesting stuff on solar panels, would love to know what the science is about their effectiveness in hot weather. I had a look at getting some for the house, at the then unit rate, the start up costs (after subsidies were removed) meant I would have to live until I was 140 to break even The current unit rate probably means I only have to live until I'm 130 now

28 degrees in the shade , ,that's under the parasol , tried a few hours down the south end beach, much to hot under the van awning, even with a little sea breeze.
Getting the Cadac ready for Waitrose sirloin steaks later.
Our Dyson cool air unit has been a god send, expensive piece of kit though, we took it with us on our trip away.
Stay cool,have a nice day.

Re: Weather
13degrees here at 8am, been quite comfortable for sleeping. Temperature has risen quickly each morning and despite forecast in low 20s we have reached high 20s daily, having had a day of 35degrees at the end of our Welsh trip last month quite glad we have missed the worst of this heatwave.
Looks likely to start breaking down with thunderstorms and lower temperatures after today.

Re: Weather
Yes, looks like normal service has been resumed. It was very hot yesterday, so hot my neighbours "constructed" a shanty style tent in their garde to keep their grandkids under shade. More cloud about but still very warm, as BB says, we have a yellow warning for thunderstorms so all change from tomorrow. Just in time for the kids to go back to school

Re: Weather
Same here very warm and muggy this morning with a lot of cloud. Think we had a few spots of badly needed rain overnight. Wouldn't put money on what it will do today.
Thanks for the tip on the dyson Boaby, will have at look at that right now and if there are enough dollars in the piggy bank might get one before heading off to France on Friday.
Have a great day all

Re: Weather
15degrees just now, forecast 20degrees later on, big change is rain arrived overnight, along with lots of thunder and lightning whi h did a very good job of interrupting sleep.
Rain has now eased off but more likely later

Re: Weather
We got about 20 minutes of the thunder and lightning last night with rain for not much longer, it's done little to change the temperature. More rain later and it will get cooler eventually. Right now it's dry, overcast and dull but 20°c at 8am.

Re: Weather
We returned yesterday from 4 nights at Baltic Wharf.
The nights themselves were moderately comfortable after the daytime heatwaves.
We'd partly gone to visit the Balloon Fiesta, but that suffered somewhat from the weather.
The evening ascents were cancelled due to the extremely light winds and sensibly the firework displays were cancelled too.
We did manage to view some of the balloons flying at six in the mornings, but what light wind there was, was an easterly taking them away from the site, so most folk missed seeing them altogether.
We walked over to Ashton Court to watch the 'nightglow' on Saturday evening and were amazed, not so much on the spectacle of the display, but the amount of people there. We left while the display was still ongoing but it was still like leaving at full time after a match at Wembley!
We had a great drive home with the aircon keeping us nice and chilled and as we viewed the wilting plants in the garden, we noticed some brown smoke appearing from the nearby coast.
Sadly another section of hillside and cliff has gone up in flames and we felt sorry for the hundred or so campers we could see from our garden that were engulfed in the smoke.
Very soon, the light wind changed direction and we were covered in the smoke too and couldn't even see the bottom of our garden.
It took the fire services some hours to extinguish and make safe, and thankfully the smell of smoke seems to be disappearing.
Unfortunately, there's a large fire at a recycling centre near to Milford Haven, which is expected to burn for a few days yet. Nuevogirl's sister is currently renting a house nearby and they've been advised to stay in with all windows and doors shut.
There's a forecast of rain here for later today, but I'm not convinced we'll be getting much.
Thankfully, no one seems to have been hurt or injured in all the grassfires around the country, and we're counting ourselves lucky that we haven't lost our home, like so many people throughout Europe.
Stay safe out there folks.

Re: Weather
Overcast and stuffy this morning, woken by a cows making a right noise this morning, they know a storm is coming! Just been told we are getting a hosepipe ban from 23rd down here so now have to move about 200 pots of plants to one area so they can be watered by a neighbour easily or cancel the holiday this week.
Decision made, better get the wheels out and start moving pots Ludicrous thing is the pots wont take any less watering just it will be harder to do it with a can, crazy!
Have a great day all

Re: Weather
Rain has been on and off all day, not heavy but steady. Still very warm so it feels clammy. Surprised more don't do what my neighbours do, nip out in the dark to water their garden with a hose No ban up here but the newspapers try to make us all feel guilty. It worked on me, stopped putting water in my whisky
Hope you have a good holiday GH, when you eventually get away

Re: Weather
Pots moved, it was really hot and muggy first thing, thunder rumbling around about but none overhead, not a drop of rain. Much fresher now, a nice afternoon for laying out with a cold drink ( or two). Lady down the road is watering for us, as long as she gets paid she isn't worried about the ban, we are not overlooked, think the cops have better things to do than get a drone up to catch her watering with a hose.
Being good though, only taking half a bath at night. Tonight I do the left side.

Heavy rain overnight, still raining but more showery. Forecast suggests it getting drier as the day goes on but remaining cloudy. What terrible weather we get in summer (had to do it ).
Heading off to the airport shortly to pick up friends and their two teenage children who are all staying with us for a few days. Can't wait
