Not been on the Macallen tour Tony. , love the old fairground stuff, especially the steam driven rides, Driffield has a good steam engine show most years.Askit wrote:Wish there was a name for a day that seems to keep repeating itself, maybe GH has some idea 12°c, dry and dull again.
My favourite tour from the 80s was the original Macallan one, all the staff including the directors took turns at leading it. Most distilleries just did the mundane walk round the process but they took us into the warehouses, where they did quality control and the big finish. We were led into a darkened room and when the show began they had a cartoon version of the process on a screen and a full sized, antique, fairground musical organ playing.
Still thick fog here.

Re: Weather
It wasnt as slippery on our morning walk and it must be warming up because the sun is trying to come out now. The 12 year old Chivas Regal helped last night. I managed to sleep right through until seven and that was only one glasss.

Re: Weather
Pretty nice day down here again, sun is shining through the clouds. 9 degrees and no wind so quite a good outside day. Finally tracked down the tiles we want for our alterations, the internet is so powerful how did we mange without it? Went in to numerous suppliers with no luck then through the net found the original supplier who had discontinued stock available, NONE of the shops we went to could be bothered to check that out, they couldn't really have cared less. Just one little shop in Redruth couldn't have been more helpful and is getting the order.
Symptom of todays attitude it seems.
Have a great day all

Cool but not frosty cloudless night. Just sitting watching full moon sinking below horizon, now to wait for sun to rise. Promises to be a nice January day.

It was the old Macallan tour we did, I've been to the new building which is very nice if you are a fan of aeroplane hangers. Still no change in our weather, same old, same old.

Re: Weather
Yep Lanzarote and 21 degrees would go down pretty well now.
No change here just very quiet weather, 11 degrees, few drops of rain last night but dry now. Is this really what winter is going to be like in these days of global warming, feels positively tropical to me. One thing we do find down here is during the mild winters everything gets covered in mould, leather shoes and clothes in the wardrobes especially, we have to leave wardrobe doors open. Is that the same in other coastal regions of the UK. Never happened when we lived in the South East of England?

Re: Weather
Things improved yesterday and it was warm and sunny enough to get a couple of washings dry outside. We're expecting a similar day today, very mild for January. Going out to have lunch with my son, nice wee change of routine.

Re: Weather
Another sunny start but only 5 degrees, low tide at 1130 so a good day for a beach walk, heating on in the van at 0800 so should be toasty warm when we leave in a few minutes. Have to make the most of this weather, maybe plan to get a few days away in the van somewhere not too far distant.
Thought about hopping on a flight to Madeira for a week or so, many I know love it, not really sure it is our scene though as we love long sandy beach walks. Porta Santo would probably suit us bohemians better.

Re: Weather
A lovely bright morning with a few patches of frosty pavements and frosty grass in the shade early this morning.
The bright low sun meant driving home from shopping was a bit tricky. Not helped coming under the railway bridge it looked like a black hole. Fortunately there’s a roundabout after the bridge so the traffic was slowing anyway.

Back to dry and dull but we've got weather system coming in from the west which will bring rain later this morning. Little change in the temperature though. Heading out to meet my brother for coffee, what a hectic social life I've got

A bright but frosty start this morning and judging by the frost on the cars it could be a slippery walk with muttly. He has been as far as the decking but came back in to finish his breakfast. It still amazes us that can hold going to the toilet until I take him for his walk. With this in mind I had best get moving.

Re: Weather
8 degrees and dry, no sign of any frost last night, a very useable day.
Back from the doc's after fasting blood tests then lunchtime off to hospital for ultrasound scans of the internal organs so they can track down whatever it is I had! Feeling 100% better, energy back so hopefully all will now be clear. Haven't eaten since 8pm last night only water so by after lunch a large pasty on the way back sounds in order!

Re: Weather
That's a worry Boaby, is it being investigated?
Mild here too, 12°c at 8am. We had a fair amount of rain yesterday but it went off by late evening. Today it's clear and dry with a great view of the moon dropping over the north west horizon. Look lik it's turning much colder tomorrow.
More socialising today with a couple of friends coming for lunch, the first people we've had in our house (barring trades) for well over two years. Not sure remember how it all works now

Re: Weather
I have heard quite a bit about this problem down here as well, seems to manifest itself as vomiting and sickness, lung failure and in a few cases it is fatal. Very worrying maybe best as you say to keep away until a little more is known about the cause.
Overcast down here with a few spots of rain, supposed to brighten up later. Not that warm either, down to 5 degrees but very little wind.
Have a few inside jobs to do so will pace them out across the morning. Siesta is between 2 and 4pm during which time work is banned unless there is a big task on!
Have a great day all and keep those four legged friends safe

Re: Weather
Turned out nice and sunny with a breeze wife has washing going,so that's my morning taken care of.
Carnt really get any info from local sources other than "keep away" from said areas, local dog, a big cocker spaniel went down with sickness and breathing problems on Monday,it has since died, spoke to the owner earlier, she said he was in one of the drainage canels near Danes Dyke .
That's why Tag never gets of his lead, he would just disappear chasing Foxes.
Have a nice day,

Re dogs, a fellow camper's dog had similar sickness when we were at Beadnell Bay in September last. They went home so don't know how the dog fared.

Re: Weather
Talking to local vet in Driffield ( old school vet) has treated 6 dogs over the weekend with this illness . He is waiting for lab tests etc.
Some say that it could be illegal discharges from passing ships ( washing out cargo tanks) or phosphates from farmers fields leaking into chanel run offs.
Suns out 30+ mph westerly wind, wife has all the bedding out on the line, also Tags bedding.
