Clear at dawn ,overcast now.rains a coming.groundhog wrote:Could someone up there please turn the tap off now If I was in a tent in Cornwall right now I would not be back in a hurry. Re: Weather
No rain coming here, because it's already falling Forecast was for a dry day yesterday, it wasn't. Tomorrow is supposed to be dry, I won't hold my breath

Re: Weather
Forecasting Watched the ITV news last night and main forecast was rain here by 1300hrs. Watched the ITV local news which followed immediately and the forecast was rain by 0800hrs. Now I assume they both came from the same forecasting source so how does that work?

I use 2 weather forecasting apps. If I want a reasonable estimate then I use the Met Office one, if I want cheering up because the weather is going to be gorgeous for weeks in the future then I go to the BBC Weather app. When I want to know, accurately, what will happen this afternoon then I ask Alexa.

Re: Weather
More serious flooding across Scotland as the wet stuff hit yesterday and overnight. The rain has stopped here, supposedly for a couple of days, because the wind has changed to coming from a northerly direction. The price to pay is temperatures have dropped like a stone.

Re: Weather
Our ponds are always a nightmare to keep full in summer, we don't use tapwater, and they need all the butts.
Overnight they filled, so circa 2" rain fell here between 8pm last night (thursday) and this morning. That's a shed load of rain!

Re: Weather
I'm dumping rain water. I've filled two next door neighbours water butts in 48 hours.
My garage feeds one hose pipe usually to the pond and a smaller one of the summer house also feeds the pond, under normal conditions it's enough rain water to keep the pond topped up during the warmer months.
Could be worse, watching the news and damage hurricane Laura has left behind. It's pouring down ,straight of the sea

Re: Weather
Typical bank holiday weather, howling wind and rain. It rained so hard this afternoon I couldn’t here the radio in the workshop.
This weather always reminds me of the bank holidays that we have been away in our tent our trailer tent. Green mud in the kitchen of the tent. Our son in the play area of the site in his PJ,s water proof suit and wellies. He had run out of dry clothes after the first two days and no drying room on site.
On one of the cub camps we were helping with our daughter tripped whilst chasing the cubs through a large puddle. When she stood up mud ran out of the bottom of her waterproofs. It must have been scooped up as she fell forwards running full tilt. That camp site had a puddle big enough to canoe on after one Easter weekend camp. The scouts thought it was adventure training.
Our usual policy of not moving during bank holidays may have been a good plan. Even if it dries up by Monday the sites will be soggy and muddy.

Re: Weather
We are home now and the wind is terrible,it's took 2 doors of my bin store and brought a tree down on the main road in our village and one in the next village, my daughter and family are coming tomorrow to put a tent up in the garden for bank holiday weekend

Re: Weather
Gale force winds along the coast, waves hammering the sea walls, had a brief recce along the coastal path at Sewerby and retreated inland, it's stopped raining , however the salty sea water is coming in on the low cloud.

Wind has ease down for a now, still very grey and drizzling, looks as though there are a few branches down at the bottom of the garden

Lovely sunny day here today but only warm in direct sunlight, otherwise rather cool. First day without a spot of rain for ages.

Crystal clear at 4.30, ideal for star gazing, really chilly,
Started to cloud over at dawn, north easterly breeze.
Try a BBQ later.

Re: Weather
Guess we must have been lucky down here in the far SW, light northerly yesterday but sunny and on sun beds all afternoon in the yard, today a sparkling morning and very little breeze. Slight nip in the air at first but the makings of another fine one
