My Harmony----what would you do?
Hi All
My Harmony will be twenty this year.
I am currently giving it it's 'annual' going over, body wise.
Generally it is in v.good condition, however, in places, some of the original Peugeot white paint is coming off.
The decals are showing their age also.
The paintwork can be sorted out quite simply by respraying in the areas required.
The vinyl decal stripes are another matter.
If the vinyl decals/stripes are replaced, would members replace as is, or would you consider a 'facelift' in design?
Even for its age, it has a healthy resale value and I just wonder when the time comes, would anything other than the original design of the vinyls affect the price.
I am of the opinion to replace like for like, but the design is twenty years old and to be fair, I don't think they do the van justice!
What would you do?
Any comments gratefully received.
PB

Modern graphic companies can do almost anything you want, your design, or the originals. I had a long scratch on my Duo and took it to my local and very good paintshop. They couldn't do it as it wouldn't fit in their spray booth and pointed me to a local graphics firm. They custom made me one and applied it.
I'd do the respray, if the vehicle is good enough underneath, then go to a graphics guy and design what you want.
Mine, albeit only a metre long, and a smaller one on the awning casing was just £50, and he installed it!

I'm in a similar situation, 20 yr old Harmony in generally good condition for the age but a few of the vinyl stripes have a few bits that are slightly tatty (like around the petrol cap door).
I've spent quite a bit of time and money generally looking after it, rustproofed underneath, few (hopefully tasteful!) upgrades - new vinyl floor, led lighting, gold downlighter repainted grey etc but cannot make up my mind whether or not to remove the decals and stripes. I've got a local contact who is a classic car specialist so goes into him every year to stay on top of any minor issues.
I think it will look 'fresher' without the decals/stripes but may loose value (not that I'm planning to sell anytime soon!)
Do you have any flaking paint on the bonnet? I've got a missing patch - apparently fairly common on the older boxers!

Re: My Harmony----what would you do?
My 20 year old Harmony recently had a bodywork repair around the offside wheel arch which involved removing the lower half of the pin stripes around the affected area.
My bodyshop man suggested removing the bottom half of the pinstripes all round rather go to the expense of replacement. I wasn't sure but now its done it looks ok.
I can send a photo via a pm/e-mail if you like.

So PB.........what did you do?
Would be interested to know (and see any pics if you did remove or replace the stripes)
Best wishes, Smithy
