Dry up the coast here this morning, nice walk with Tag earlier.

Watching the breakfast news, they're doing a story on the swimmers going into the North sea for a dip at Whitby this morning. Not tempted Boaby

I nearly had that problem getting into the water at Prestwick, and that was in July Mind you, back in the 70s there were bigger dangers in the water around that coast

We used swim at the beach in Seamill Tony and up the coast near Troon, didn't know Glasgow city council were dumping jobbies just of the coast in those days.
Used to sail out and watch the Basking sharks too, great fun.
Misty here ,after a dreich start.

Re: Weather
We've got a sharp frost this morning but it's warming up (apparently)
Looks like a decent bit of weather tomorrow so the New Years Day walk is on, unless something gets in the way
Happy new year folks

Re: Weather
It’s a bit cold and frosty in Thornton le Dale. The cold water was a bit slow to run this morning, management wasn’t impressed with the shower. It wouldn’t stay the same temperature, mostly hot. After Aussie it nice to be out in the cold crisp air. Bussing it to Whitby for lunch today. Should be nice up there.
I think the swim in the sea will be for another day!!!!.

Re: Weather
Rather breezy today, so much so that the A1 has been closed from Edinburgh to the Scottish borders. Despite that, a couple of high sided vehicles ignored the restrictions and have been blown over. No telling some folk

Re: Weather
We had a decent enough day but it started with a sharp frost. Heavy rain on the way so we might not get to see the "wolf" full moon tonight.

Re: Weather
Cold and bright start to the day but we've been warned to batten down the hatches as storm Brendan is due to hit us in a couple of hours. The week ahead is more of the same with strong winds and heavy rain. Just have to get on with my knitting

Re: Weather
Brendan's been here for the last couple of hours and I can't believe how wild it is, even on the northern sheltered site of our place.
We're well used to a battering from the Atlantic storms on this west coast but at the moment these 60mph winds feel like some of the worst for a while. The accompanying deluge has just arrived too, so it looks like we're going to get a proper soaking, as we have to head into town this afternoon.

Re: Weather
Wow, that was a wild one, but thankfully Brendan has bin and gone - literally.
Our bin has gone - well actually 3 of them went but one is still on the run somewhere.
64 mph recorded just down the coast at Milford Haven and that place really is a haven.
We're fully exposed and higher in elevation, so I reckon on around 70 mph today.
However, we're in for another battering tomorrow, which the Met Office are saying will bring stronger winds!
Hope your rellies north of the border fare OK Boaby.

Re: Weather
It looks like your son will have a continued battering Boaby.
Today's forecast storm here wasn't much at all thankfully - certainly nothing like yesterday's.
Had a good scout around this afternoon and found all the missing items, including the food-waste bin lid which was trapped against the front wheels of the 'van.
Hoping for a settled spell for our trip to Cardiff next week and hopefully Paul will have a pleasant trip to the lakes too.

Re: Weather
Hardly a storm here today considering the weather warnings. Decided the lakes is too far for 3 nights now so staying more local till the weekend. Forecast is for brighter but colder, prefer that to wet and windy.

Must admit that we've become wimps and have become fair weather travellers. We used to go away every January, up north or down to the Lakes. We even BBQed outside one year when it was -26°c but the last occasion finished us with that. We were in a small village in the Cumbrian fells, the local shops shut early, it was perishing with horizontal sleet, when it was light you could see nothing and it got dark at 3pm then the local pub manager decided there was not enough custom to either open before 7pm or serve food at all. We thought, why are we doing this and not sitting at home in comfort and warmth?
Anyway, it's cold and dry today but we have another weather warning for tomorrow. Better tie the bins down

Cold, dry and sunny today so we left for Nantwich. Just as I'm writing this it's started to rain (it lasted less than a minute) but we're cozy inside now having arrived 30 minutes ago.
