36 hours without rain, that's a change. Good frost overnight and quite a bright day forecast.

Re: Weather
Thankfully, I'd plugged into the mains last night as I thought it felt a bit chilly out and I haven't drained the 'van yet. I'd set the heating at 6 degrees to hopefully keep the boiler full.
We don't often have frost this close to the coast, but it was well below freezing all morning and all was well.
The freezing fog has lifted here and there's a strange yellow glow in the sky at the moment.

We live about a Mile from the coast as the gull flys NB and regularly get frosts,( forecasted for tonight too) must be the North Sea effect, unlike when we lived on Bute where frosts almost unheard of ( Gulf Stream) .nuevoboThankfully, I'd plugged into the mains last night as I thought it felt a bit chilly out and I haven't drained the 'van yet. We're just over a mile inland as the choughs fly (actually, they don't come so far inland) but are supposedly blessed with those Gulf Stream winds you mention.burlingtonboaby wrote:We live about a Mile from the coast as the gull flys NB and regularly get frosts,( forecasted for tonight too) must be the North Sea effect, unlike when we lived on Bute where frosts almost unheard of ( Gulf Stream) .nuevoboThankfully, I'd plugged into the mains last night as I thought it felt a bit chilly out and I haven't drained the 'van yet. Mind you, most of the time they're just Atlantic Gales, which do tend to keep Jack Frost at bay. There's a wind turbine on a farm just south of us and flags on top of the castle just to the north, so we always look at them to see which way (and how strong) the wind is blowing.
It's a very rare day indeed when both are inactive.
As ever, it's blowing a hooley again this morning, which is accompanied by the usual rain.
I much preferred that crisp and dry spell we had yesterday.

Re: Weather
Still no rain here, frost again overnight, and despite a rather red sky first thing this morning we have pretty thick fog now. Temp yesterday was a high of 4, today expected 7 and only dropping to 6 overnight. No further frost expected for at least a week.

Real pea souper all the way along the coast up to Whitby, frost is finally thawing.
My son is up in the north of Mull (Sunart) and enjoying the Gulf Stream effect,
However it does get breezy up there .

Re: Weather
Last night we had an incredible storm and I thought the trees were going to come down on the house.
Some of the local roads were flooding as friends visited us.
It was dry this morning when I drove into town for a few odds and ends and to use my 10p off voucher to fill the 'van.
The forecast was heavy rain from 11 o'clock and for once they were right. It's been tippling down since and I really am wondering where it's all coming from.
The weather warning of heavy rain we have here is in force until mid-day tomorrow!

Re: Weather
We complain about the weather in the UK. I have just come back from seven weeks in Australia and I actually glad to be back in a normal climate that’s liveable.
Getting off an air conditioned train in Brisbane to 38 to 40 degrees was not good. In the mornings you woke up stuck to the sheets feeling like you had been licking the pavement in the night.
The bush fires restricted were you could travel or trips were cancelled at short notice. A craft market was cancelled due to storm coming. The storm lasted fifteen mins. We get better showers in the UK.
Walking out of the airport in Manchester to a cold wet night felt quite normal.
During our last evening we both said how much we looked forward to getting back to our travels and were we would go on our first trip now we are both fully retired.

Watching the breakfast news, they're doing a story on the swimmers going into the North sea for a dip at Whitby this morning. Not tempted Boaby

Re: Weather
I saw the article about the Whitby swim. I admire there charitable cause but I would find something a bit warmer .
Just walking on the beach in Australia was painful. I can’t remember sand so hot. When you did get to the sea there were nasties like jelly fish lurking to sting. The pool we normally used out there was standing room only most days.
We are going away for New Year if we can make up our mind we’re to go. It won’t matter what the weather is like by midnight hopefully. Some were with a pub in walking distance would be a good idea. So far it is a matter of do we go North or South, probably near the coast.???.

Enjoy a swim in the local pool (heated) most mornings here in Bridlington, good luck to them up in Whitby, made of hard stuff up there.
