Fuel Pump - Duetto 1994
We were just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with the fuel uplift pump. We have had this replaced 4 times, but are still having the same problem. We have been told that this could be the back pressure problem. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Many thanks..

Is it fair to assume that this is with the 2.5l TDi engine?
TBH, I find that an odd explanation. As far as I know it's a circulating system, so any excess fuel over what's used by the engine circulates back to the tank, so excessive backpressure seems unlikely.
A more likely explanation to me would be crud in the tank - has it been cleaned out? IIRC, Transits of that age should have a plastic tank, so it should not be hard to do if that's correct.

Fuel Duetto - 1994
Thanks for your reply. Our van is only a 2.5 non turbo.

As far as I'm aware, it's still an injected system, even without the turbo, so my comment applies equally to that engine. Has the tank been cleaned out and the fuel filter then replaced?

I know that the fuel filter was replaced last year, but I will have to ask my partner if the tank has been cleaned.

Low cost check, be sure that the air vent on the filler cap isn't blocked, even slightly. If it is, as the fuel is used the pressure inside the tank will decrease causing the pump a harder time to lift the fuel.
Once had a Citroen BX, one day after the correct miles on the ODO, I went to fill it, only took 10ltrs! The tank had been sucked flat, blocked air vent.
A clue would be to take it for a long run, I mean long, 20ltrs or so long, stop and immediately remove the fuel filler, if there's a whoosh, therin lies your problem
