Single bed mod in a 2001 Symbol.
Hi,
As I'm a solo traveller I thought I could use the bed as a wide single this would involve drivers seat right forward Then a board 3' x 1' over the leisure battery with a full width foam.
Has anyone tried this, did it work or was it frought with problems?

Re: Single bed mod in a 2001 Symbol.
Hi - I have a symbol 2003 and often use the benches as single beds, I think 2001 is the same layout but I'm not sure!
To use the driver side bed I have to push the driver seat as far forward as possible and tilt the seat forward slightly, this then allows for the extra bed cushion (as supplied) to squeeze in to make the bed longer, it does go on top of the leisure battery.
I pull the width out first as you cannot do it after inserting the extra cushion. Have you not got the extra cushions?... they are used for the double bed too.
Hope this helps.

Symbol beds
,
So are there 2 infil cushions that make the double bed up?
The only cushion I've got is the one that slides in at the end of the bed to make an arm rest(I think that's what it's for)Nu107 wrote:Hi - I have a symbol 2003 and often use the benches as single beds, I think 2001 is the same layout but I'm not sure!

There are actually 3 infill cushions which does not include the one you have that slides in the end of the bench lifts up and folds forward leaving a gap for one of the infills. I'll try and find the post I made a few years back describing how they all fit.

2001 Symbol single bed make-up
Hi.
I have a 2001 Symbol and make up 2 single beds. Using the long bench seat behind the drivers seat I first move the drivers seat forward. I have made a board 2' x 1' which is placed over the leisure battery and uses the seat frame and the top of the bench legs as a support. I have measured up a piece of thick foam, (foam from an old lounge cushion) and used this as an infill. As for having 3 infill cushions for the Symbol it appears that I am in the same position as yourself, as when I bought the vehicle 4 years ago I had only one infill cushion and the other one is for the arm rest to the bench seat/ bed. Are you pulling the bench seat out about 4 inches and locking it in before using it as a bed?
Regards
Roy

Symbol bed make up
Hi Roy didn't realise you could lock the seat without pulling it out fully. I'll give it a try tomorrow.Wally Walgett wrote:Hi.

Re: Single bed mod in a 2001 Symbol.
Well that video is informative but is actually a Symphony....the bed is not really like my Symbol....I don't have arm rests etc and the seats don't go forward as smooth as that...no wires either!......
But might give a general idea

SorryI always assumed the Symbol was same layout as Symphony but with cosmetic changes such as three ring cooker, Heki roof light and different worktops.

Re: Single bed mod in a 2001 Symbol.
Paulmold I watched his other videos and the vehicles are similar but my bed set up is definitely easier in layout but maybe harder physically! ....oh and only 3 extra cushions.
Wroxham- I took a photo as attached
Total 10 cushions ( bottom right thin part mainly off this shot sorry)
Clockwise from Bottom right of photo
1 + 2 are actually the back of the driver side bench
3 & 4 (middle) are the seat of the driver side bench, when pushed back to wall
5,6 & 7 (the left ones) are all part of the back passenger seat (with 3rd belt) when it's unfolded.
The top three 8,9 & 10 are the mythical three extra ones! The middle one has 2 solid flaps(?) to it and the other two are squareish
I often just use the two single beds ( with the wide one pulled out a bit) So then I leave the top middle one at home and I leave the bottom right one that forms the bench back...and use cushions and pillows for day comfort!
Hope this helps

Thanks for the pic, thought it would be something like that. I'll have to make the two I missing.Nu107 wrote:Paulmold I watched his other videos and the vehicles are similar but my bed set up is definitely easier in layout but maybe harder physically! ....oh and only 3 extra cushions.

It's always worth contacting previous owners in case they stored them in the loft and forgot about them.
