Mains Connection, Rambler
Hi Folks,
When I hook up to the mains the only things that works is the 13 amp socket on the wall by the cooker. The fridge works off the 12v but not the 240v and when I check the voltage of the leisure battery, there is no increase in voltage (from 12v) to indicate that its being charged when on site. It's this last part that that I'd like to have working the most so that I don't have to worry about going mad with lights/pump etc.
Is there something I've missed? I've checked the fuses in the zig unit, the split charge 30amp fuse in the engine bay and all the fuses in the glove box and all the RCB switches are in the correct position. Is there a fuse somewhere hidden that I have not found yet? I've checked under both cab seats and every nook and cranny. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in anticipation,
Phil. 1989 Rambler

Are you sure your van has that capability? Depending on the age of your van a charge on hook up may not have been fitted as standard. I went through the same thing and it turns out it was an optional extra for my van make and model.

Thanks for that. I hadn't considered that. It would explain why I cannot find any evidence of a switch or whatever. I wonder if the fridge has a separate fuse? I looked at the 3 RCD's. There is one larger one with 2 smaller ones below. I'm guessing one is for the socket on the wall and the other for the fridge. Sound right to you? Thanks again for your reply.

rambler gl.charging.
battery charging facility on a rambler was an optional extra.but your two fitted 240 volt plugs should work on hook up.also the light above the clock works on hook up power.

Thanks Fisherman. It would certainly explain why there is no evidence of battery charging or whatever. Is it worth retro fitting a charger do you think? How much and how difficult would this be to do?
Once again, many thanks for your help, Phil.

Hi Mate, I agree with other readers about the charging issues on youre van. A friend of mine had the same issue with another make of van. He has gone to the limit with his van by fitting a Solar System and had a mains charging system fitted. The Solar is for his stays at GP tracks with no hook up. He used a firm called Roadpro in Daventry. They advertise in the magazines.
Good hunting , keep the old vans rolling.

hi fisherman again. get a leisure battery charger from a reliable battery factor plug it into a 240 plug in the van,run one of the supplied connection cables through the bulkhead and connect to the leisure battery.job done and not expensive.it can be disconected when you are on the move .
