Buying an Autosleeper Duetto Empty Buying an Autosleeper Duetto

Post by Jockinafrock Tue Jul 12, 2011 8:32 am

Hi all - I am looking to upgrade my trusty 1989 Talbot Express Camelot to a "newer" A/S Ford Duetto (2001 ish). Any advice from Duetto owners will be most welcome - both positive & negative comments. The vans we've looked at so far have been trade and not very well looked after or prepared for sale! I'm thinking now of a private sale from an owner that's looked after their pride & joy as I have with my Camelot. Thanks.

Hi jockinafrock
With the older beige Duettos watch out for rot/rust around the wheel arches. It's a common feature so make sure that any repair has been done to a good standard and not bodged.
Cheers
Stevo

Hi Jock

I liked my Duetto very much, very convenient size.

I had a 1995 2.5 turbo which was more than adequate power, and never missed a beat on some long tours round the Continent, and Scotland a few times.

I got rid of it, although the inside was very nice and clean, the tin worm had started to eat away the wheel arches and back door, and from experience over the years, I new it was going to be a losing battle.

So, there are some very nice ones out there but, be very aware of the rust problem with the Transit.

On the plus side, parts a widely available and cheap.

Had our 2001 Duetto 2.4d since 2005 with no probs allthumbz . Since bought we have had:-

Waxoiled underbody
Cruise control fitted
Gaslow system fitted
Remapped
40watt solar panel
Second Leisure battery fitted with regulator
350watt invertor
Scuttle guard fitted to prevent ingress of rain water onto injectors
Metal valves fitted to wheels
We use a Outdoor Revolution Midi Square drive away awning when in the UK
For spares you cannot beat the service of AutoSleepers in Willersey

We intend to keep it till it turns into a tea bag. We have toured allover Europe and are now content, for awhile, touring the UK and Eire.

Enjoy Enjoy up!

Ian and Jen

Buying an Autosleeper Duetto Empty Duetto upgrade

Post by ampwh1 Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:14 pm

Hi Jock

A long while since you posted the question, but have you upgraded yet (took us 6 months to find the van we wanted, so you never know)?

Anyway, we upgraded from a Talbot Express panel van conversion to a 2001 Duetto (mk6 Transit) at the beginning of this year (and very pleased we did).

If there is any questions you may still have, I'd be happy to help.

Buying an Autosleeper Duetto Empty Duetto - Got One at Last!

Post by Jockinafrock Thu Dec 15, 2011 11:35 pm

Thanks to all for your helpful tips and advice, finally bought a 1999 Duetto 2.5 TD 3 weeks ago and very pleased with it. A couple of not too distant trips away to iron out a few problems (Heated rear door relay duff and other minor faults) & check the systems out (especially the warm air heating!). Still haven't sold the Talbot Express Camelot yet - must be the wrong time of year, plenty of interest but no firm takers.
Seasons Greetings to all

nice going Jock glad you got your new pride and Joy, There are quite a few for sale at the moment and some good deals about. Maybe worth giving ebay a bit of a try to move on the Talbot or just keep it to around march and get it spruced up :)
