symbol 2nd gear grinding

I have a petrol 2000 symbol which has only done 27000 miles and seco.d gear has started to grind. Is this big job and expensive. Shud it be doing this as low mileage? Help!!!!

At any mileage (I have driven vehicles with over 200,000 miles on the clock) no gear-box should sound very "different" in any particular gear!

My only advice is to get it checked out as soon as possible because whatever is causing the "grinding" noise has less than a one in a thousand chance of getting better with more use!
