Numptie can't find fuse box in Trooper
Hi,
Where would I find the fusebox in a V reg trooper. I've located the VW fuses, just not the ones relating to the conversion.
Thanks
Dan

A-ha, so it looks like a standard domestic consumer unit? I've got a 3 pin socket below the zig (?) unit that's not working, but none of the trip switches have tripped...what else should I be looking for?

Anything plugged into the 3 pin socket (phone charger etc). In the cutout below the zig (is that right?) unit is the socket and the controller for the blown air heater.
I can post a photo tomorrow to illustrate.
Cheers

So all of the other 240v services work. Its only this one socket that is faulty. Is that correct?

What are the other 240v services? The fridge has been playing up but we'd put that down to not parking on level spots.

Re: Numptie can't find fuse box in Trooper
Just realised I don't know where my Trident fuses are. V reg as well. Will look tomorrow if I have time. The VW fuses are on the right of the steering wheel but the van fuses are ??????????????????? I have the main fuse for the van on a cable that goes to the leisure battery. My garage found that for me but it had been put there by whoever had once owned the van before me. Watching this post with interest.DanLear wrote:Hi,

Facilities vary with the age of vehicle.
With your age vehicle when its plugged into a 230v electrical hook up point you should have mains electricity operation of the leisure battery charger, power sockets and 230v light and options to operate the fridge and the water heater on mains electricity.

I suppose that makes perfect sense. It's a 240v socket. I'll get the van on the drive tonight and hooked up to check.

Thanks Peter. The fridge doesn't appear to work on 230 (240?)v but I'm only able to hook it up on our drive which has quite a slope. As I understand it, there's only ca. 6 deg tolerance on the fridge before it wont cool efficiently...can anyone clarify that?
thanks to everyone for their help,

The older Electrolux style fridges are sensitive to slope, but much more so on gas than electric (because of the way the gas burner heat convects up the flue).
I used mine on a very sloping drive on mains to get it cool the day before leaving home and it worked, but they usually take a long time to get going that way (typically I would see no effect at all for at least one hour, but leave it running overnight and you should see it really get going).

Re: Numptie can't find fuse box in Trooper
The problem with not having the fridge level when on gas is that the flame is very small and will always rise vertically. If the fridge is more than a few degrees off vertical (front back or left right) the flame misses the flame detector which then assumes a fault and switches the gas off.

Hmm, that's interesting (and worrying). I had mine on mains hookup overnight on Thursday last week and it wasn't cold at all. I'd hoped(!) it was due to the slopey drive, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's the original Electrolux one in a V reg Trooper....maybe it needs a good "inversion"??
I'll get it on the drive again tonight, crank it to 7(!) and see what it's like in the morning.
Don't fancy the cost of a replacement

It takes ages for the Electrolux fridge to get cold so I always switch the 12v on when travelling. Have you got a manual Dan. I could give you the link if you haven't. -------------Still looking for the fuses.

@rose49f - I do have the manual thank you...all the lights light up (12v and gas) amd I get a gas pilot light igniting with no problems.....it just doesn't get very cold. Maybe this is one for a different thread seeing as my fuses are now located!

Re: Numptie can't find fuse box in Trooper
Just to confirm, as johnmccorry rightly said, the 3 pin socket only works when it's hooked up.
Now, onto the fridge....I'm going to leave it hooked up overnight on the sloping drive. The fridge is switched on to 240v (green switch). Should I see any lights to indicate that it's working?
Thanks
Dan

Well assuming the fridge is similar to the one in our 2000(X) Symbol the green switch itself should illuminate when switched on (1) to indicate that it is getting 240v power. (It's what I use as a tell-tale when hooking up that we have power.) This won't tell you if the fridge is working as in cooling but no green light would indicate no power (assuming that the lamp in the switch is OK of course). In the Symbol as well as the 'fuses' (actually Miniature Circuit Breakers) we have two switches in a cupboard. One isolates the water 'otter and the other if I recall correctly, the fridge and sockets circuit. These also have neon lights in so you can tell if the power supply is present. I would be very surprised if your van doesn't have a similar arrangement.

Except I didn't recall correctly, having looked it's water 'otter and battery charger.
