thule back rack and box
Hi I have recently bought a thule back rack [fits on tow bar] and back box for my 1998 Topaz, have used it for short weekend break, it certainly helped to free up internal space, obvious inconveniences with rear door ,but neverthe less am delighted with it. Has anyone any thoughts or experience, good or bad about these? Harry

Yep, got one and I think it's a great bit of kit.
Only downside....can't open rear doors!!

Same here on a 2001 Topaz. Not being able to open the rear door without complete removal makes turning the gas on or changing the bottle a right pain.
Otherwise it works great.

The combination we use is Thule easy base 949 and Thule back up 900, U Tube has a good demo video of them.

Re: thule back rack and box
Looking at buying the Thule 900 back up box; does anyone know if it will fit on the Fiamma bike rack? Or what are the dimensions of the base 'grooves' on the Thule and I can measure and see if it will work.
Many thanks

Re: thule back rack and box
I bought one, but sold it within a week as it was in the way of the spare-wheel winder, (mine is slap-bang in the centre of the bumper ) and the whole assembly + bikes would need removing in the event of a puncture, so I fitted a Fiamma instead.
However I DID like the tow-ball mounted one.

BUT will the Thule fit the fixed Fiamma bike rack does anyone know pleasey please? I can't suss from the add's if the base is flat or grooved to fit over the tubes of the rack.
I phoned a Thule dealer but he didn't know or seem to care. Numpty, won't get my business.

Re: thule back rack and box
The Fiamma box 'sits' on the 2 cross-rails on the bike rake & are held in place via clamps round the vertical tubes, looking a pictures of the Thule rack, it shows several FORE & AFT rails that the box sits on, so I would have thought that all that's required is to sit it on the rack & arrange the 'U' bolt clamps to suit.
If the box fails to sit on the rack properly, simply fabricate a thin marine-ply base for it, & I for one would readily buy one & fit, various holes need to be drilled in the boxes anyway to suit their location.
