thule awning
Good evening, does anyone know how to slightly open the awning slot on the Thule wind out awning. I have been told it is a 6mm gap i have purchased a 6mm to 6mm Kador strip and have cleaned the slot with an awning rail stiff brush and silicon but it is almost impossible to get the Kador strip through and even harder to get it back out. Any tips please. Kevin

Re: thule awning
I have been messing with the awning slot today and my slot takes 6mm kador strip , this is 6mm and then the fabric makes it 6.5mm this slides in easy and out easy, just checked with a vernier and it is bang on 6.5mm, Used a few drill bits to measure the slot diameter using the shank of the drill bit to give me the diameter, there is no way to alter it

Hi all, it's good you have them but you are missing the point, what size Kador strip do yo have is the question as mine is supposed to be 6mm but i can get it to slide in the channel. Kevin

This information recommends 5mm for the awning side channel on the kador strip

Hi al, so got home and we are back to the Kador strip. I have measured the C channel with a drill it is 6.5mm and measured the Kador strip with Vernier gauge it is 6.5mm so why is it so tight. I will have to borrow aa friends drive away again as his worked fine i am posative i did not use the 4mm strip on his as it has both. i can only think the set i have uses thicker canvas over the plastic strip. It is very frustrating as i only need less than half a millimetre for it to slide through.

Re: thule awning
I have just checked the channel on the Thurle omnistore 6200 awning that’s fitted and I can get a 7mm drill in the channel, this is why my 6.5mm awning kador strip fits, is yours the same awning , I did not actually mention the channel size just the kador size

Re: thule awning
Hi yes same awning 6200 i have just tried a 7mm drill bit goes into the first plastic bit but not into channel. but 6.5 drill bit is ok. Very strange. Surely there must be a way to open them a tad. I only need half a mm at the most. Kevin

Re: thule awning
Sorry if I’ve missed something but have you actually tried another 6mm kador strip in your slot?
I would be doing that with a trusted strip before thinking about opening up the channel.

Re: thule awning
I have just taken swift shelter to a chap up the road to have a new kador strip sewn on as the one fitted did not go in the channel, I think some measure the overall size ,ie the plastic piping and the material cover and some measure just the piping, I bought two lots of 4 meter lengths for this shelter, one fitted the channel the other didn’t,both sold as 6.5mm, when I put the vernier on the non fitting it was 7mm but the piping was 6.5mm so it went back

Hi Chris that is the same awning as ours but it has the front and 2 side doors. So have you had a new strip sewn into that so you don't need the drive away strip. Kevin
