We have a bench seat on the off-side of the van, are passengers allowed to travel without seatbelts??

Re: passenger seats in Symphony
If you do a search, it is a subject that has been raised before.....................and quite complex to boot.
It has a lot to do with 'interpretation' of the legislation!!

bench seat
Its a complicated subject and I'm no legal expert. One things for sure children aren't allowed to travel unbelted and they will probably need a booster seat too. For adults if seat belts are fitted then they must be used. The big question for motorhomes is if its legal to travel in a non belted seat - I think the jury is still out and if something went wrong I think the police will prosecute.
I don't think that you will get a definitive answer becuase the law is vague. I wouldn't risk it.

It seems that the law was clarified for motorhomes built after 2006 (according to
Caravan Guard at least).

Even if it’s not expressly forbidden I wouldn’t risk it. Firstly and most importantly because it’s not really safe and secondly because I suspect there are laws on the safe use of vehicles that police could prosecute under.
Not to mention what the insurance company might say if you were unlucky enough to be involved in an accident.
