Boiled linseed oil and plastic trim
I feel sure that I have read about using boiled linseed oil to restore colour to the black plastic trim. So I bought some and it says that it is used for wood treatment. Have people any experience of using it and does it appear safe to use on the trim?

Lasts 3 to 4 months on the plastic trim on my van, mix boiled linseed oil and white spirits, half and half. Make sure trim is well washed and dried. Apply mixture sparingly and buff off. Be careful not to spill onto paintwork as it is difficult to get off....don't ask me how I know

Use Swarfega instead, much easier and any spills can be washed off.

Been doing it for over 40 years after my dad showed me how easy it was. Seen so many other ways but still haven’t found anything that is better or lasting any longer.Paulmold wrote:That's a new one on me !Fixer wrote:Use Swarfega instead, much easier and any spills can be washed off.

Hi is that the smooth or swarfega with the grit. I assume the smooth. Have to agree with the boiled linseed being a pain to remove from paint work also found it didn’t last any longer than Auto glym back to black. Kevin

So can't the non spills also be washed off? Works for hands imho....Fixer wrote:Use Swarfega instead, much easier and any spills can be washed off.

Yes the smooth one, the grit one is likely to scratch before it breaks downkevjan wrote:Hi is that the smooth or swarfega with the grit. I assume the smooth. I think it works by removing the oxidation from the surface to bring out the newness underneath. Washing afterwards is the same as any having used a different method as rain water will get to it during normal use.IanH wrote:So can't the non spills also be washed off?
