Ram Raider,
Yes, I agree, a real pain.
it was suggested to me by a salesperson to reduce the internal pressure. open a window slightly. (The jury is out on that one thou.)
Another idea that I believe is seen within this forum, and dependent on the model, is fitting a small grab handle (left hand, looking out) to assist with closing that gap.
If you find a solution I know many would be interested..

Opening a window or rooflight does seem to help and I've also put an internal handle to assist.

I know nothing about pressures. But I’m puzzled as to why closing a sliding door as opposed to slamming closed a conventional hinged door) can compress air so as to make it difficult to close the door.
That said, I don’t recall any such issue with closing the sliding door when we had a VHT in the late ‘80s and thereafter. Probably more unintentional ventilation!

Re: Side loading door
You had to open a window to close the conventional doors in the old VW Beetles!
My Touareg is a bit the same: it has double door seals and you can feel the difference when you shut the door with the windows closed.
With the sliding door it is moving inwards during the last phase of closing, hence trying to compress the air.

Thanks Bargee. I didn’t know that the sliding door moved inwards.
I too had a series of Beetles and I well remember the technique for closing the door from the inside - the quarter-light was handy!

Re: Side loading door
I have the same issue as Ram raider. If I close the door gently there is a slight gap at the bottom. If it gives it the good old whoosh bang it closes. There are three obvious points of adjustment at the door roller guides. All marked with index lines on my WXL. I take the point about the air pressure. I to had an old VW Beatle. I think it ought to close without the whoosh bang motion. I fitted a small handle at the rear of the door which helps quite a lot but it's only held on by one upholstery screw so not sure how long before I rip it of. There should be a solution to this because a lot of posh taxis nowadays have electric sliding doors. If I ever summon up the courage to adjust mine I'll come back on it. Problem is I don't want to make it worse.
