Side door not locking
Anybody had any problems with the sliding side door on a Peugeot Boxer? Mine will not let me set the alarm, even though the door is shut the dash board is saying that the door is open, and when driving the dash warning keeps beeping and saying door open. Any ideas?

Re: Side door not locking
On a VW Transporter the central locking is activated by electrical contacts in the door and the door post. An occurrence like yours, which we had on a previous Topaz, was cured by careful cleaning of the said contacts !

Re: Side door not locking
Can't remember, but if I was to do that today I would probably use a fine grade wire wool HAVING FIRST DISCONNECTED THE NEG BATTERY LEAD !!!
Then give them a very thin smear of Vaseline.

Re: Side door not locking
I had this problem when I first got my Symbol - based on a Peugeot Boxer. There are 2 contact posts at the bottom of the back of the door which come into contact with a sensor plate when thew door closes. Make sure that these spring loaded contact posts are not bent or permanently retracted. My contact posts where bent upwards and did not make contact with the sensor when the sliding door was closed, hence did not lock. They are not very easy to get at but this is something you should investigate first. Let me know how you get on.Bazil wrote:Anybody had any problems with the sliding side door on a Peugeot Boxer? Re: Side door not locking
We have found the door needs a good slam sometimes to turn this off so it maybe the contacts Taurian suggests

Re: Side door not locking
Yes, like Roli our door generally needs a good hard slam - not the most sociable thing late at night if you're on a camp site.
We currently have a problem actually opening the thing. The external lever doesn't always release the catch. I have adjusted the 4 or 5 position cable adjuster at the bottom of the door but it soon seems to be going out of adjustment again. I even wondered if it was heat related, parking in hot sun. Not sure if this little adjuster might help with the door closing problem. Worth a try maybe, as , like me, you can always get in the front door if you get the adjuster wrong and can't open the slider from outside (it will open fine from inside). Sorry, used a lot of words to say very little..

Re: Side door not locking
Late at night if you open the window slightly on the door it will close easier as the air pressure builds up behind the door as it is closed with the window shut.postman wrote:Yes, like Roli our door generally needs a good hard slam - not the most sociable thing late at night if you're on a camp site.

Re: Side door not locking
On ours I let the door close and then push firmly on the back of the door. This presses the contacts together.
Not much help from the inside tho!
I seem to remember a handle being fitted by some folk to the inside of the VW side door to pull it closed,
but can't think of a simple way on the Boxer.
A problem I have with the side door is the water that collects along the top of the door in heavy rain and then falls straight
onto the seating when I open the door.

I recognise all of those problems. We always make certain that we have a set of keys on us as you can be locked out of the van with these problems. If we know about them, how come AS doesn't?

Re: Side door not locking
Our brand new 2017 Symbol's central locking stopped working after first weekend. We can lock the vehicle manually but unlocking does not open the sliding door. We have to open the passenger door and reach in to unlock it from the inside. The Peugeot dealer ordered a new key, this took 6 weeks to arrive and did not solve the problem. They think it may be a wiring fault so the van is booked in for further investigation mid September as we have a couple of trips booked.

Do you have an Autowatch alarm fitted? We have one on our Duo and have exactly this problem when using the Autowatch fob to set and unset the alarm / open doors. The genuine Peugeot key will open and lock all doors, both single locking and double locking, but the alarm fob / key will only lock all doors and not unlock the sliding door.
