Side door
My van is off to local Peugeot tomorrow (its vertually new) as I beleive there is something amiss with the operation of the sliding door. I'd like to run it past your experiences to see if anyones seen it before as I feel sure it shouldnt be the way it is.
The door opens fine and shuts fine with a bit of a slam. If you are too gentle closing and it latches but not quite shut then the external handle will not release the door,it will open fine from the inside.?????

Re: Side door
We also need to slam ours. Opening the window a bit does help when closing it from the inside. We don’t have any grab handles on the inside and according to our dealer one cannot be fitted in a convienient area.
We use the black blocky thing low down on the door, pulling it inwards whilst closing and that helps.
If it’s only catching at times, from the outside give it a shove with yer bum lol.

Re: Side door
Certainly sounds like a fault. I often only latch the door so as not to disturb neighbours with constant slamming and have never been unable to open it from outside or inside.

It does catch but if not fully closed cannot open it from outside handle.Lorfal wrote:We also need to slam ours. Opening the window a bit does help when closing it from the inside. We don’t have any grab handles on the inside and according to our dealer one cannot be fitted in a convienient area.

Paul said he never has a problem opening from outside if not latched fully closed, supports my belief there is a fault.. Hopefully a straight forward fix, fingers crossed!

Re: Side door
Hi. I have fixed a pull handle made of black webbing to the mid point of the door - bolted through the steel frame below the window - which makes door closing easier. It doesn’t catch the kitchen unit which a solid handle would. Silicon spray on the door slides and mechanism gives a quiet clunk on shutting rather than a slam.
Best wishes.
Best wishes.

I can second that. Slides smooth and if you spray the rubber seal, it makes it a lot easier to open, no more sticking.

Re: Side door
To help with closing from inside I've fixed a handle on the sill of the window but mine is a 2010 with curtains not a blind so there is nothing to prevent fitting a handle, you can't if you have a blind.

Confirmed the same here, if I gently slide the door to just latch it, I can also open it fine from the outside too.
I'm voting a fault too.

That is I vote fault. I often fail to close the door fully and just pull it open again and then slam it. Outside or inside.

Re: Side door
We used to have to slam the door but following a tip from a person on here you just need to push the rear of the door inwards rather than forwards. We also used gummi pfledge on the rubber to keep it soft

Hi I’ve a Symbol with a window blind on my sliding door and have a handle fitted through the plastic surround cover through to the metal frame below. Does make closing easier.

Just tried this suggestion, absolutely brilliant, can’t believe it closes so easily without having to slam

Re: Side door
That's easy for outside shutting, closing from inside is the problem unless you fit an inside handle or strap as far back as you can depending on whether you have kitchen or washroom preventing you reaching very far.

Re: Side door
We open the window in the side door this provides a handle as well as preventing increased internal air pressure that is the problem in pulling the door inwards.

Sorry, you are right Paul. Forgot to add that it didn’t help with the main problem of closing from the inside!
Great tip for outside though.

Re: Side door
many continental converters (Pössl, Globecar) are fitting an electric soft close mechanism, no slamming required...
they are available aftermarket, but i wasn't sure if they were available for uk nearside doors....anyone tried one?

Hi a much better price. I notice it is also listed as fitting a range of other makes and so wondered whether a second hand unit would fit since lots of other makes, especially Japanese and ex taxis have electric doors.

My Globecar – Fiat has the soft close mechanism and it works well with no slamming.
