Auto Sleeper Duetto New Wings
Good Morning guys and gals,
I'm having trouble trying to find the OSF & NSF Inner Wings for my Ford Transit Mk5 Auto-Sleeper Duetto Motor Home (Part Numbers are 6906310 & 6685300).
I had an accident in May this year, the insurance have ok'd the work and the garage has all the parts to fix the front end apart from these inner wings i have tried just about every where with Ford Parts in Colchester saying they could get the part for £168.73 each to be told the next day they didnt have them they gave me a number for a firm in Chorley who again couldnt help.
My next thought was to get the parts fabricated? But i was after a template so the garage could do this out of sheet metal as a guy in Doncaster i spoke to had a similiar problem and made his own. Any ideas or solutions to this problem would be greatly appreciated so that we can get on the open road again.

Re: Auto Sleeper Duetto New Wings
Hi there,
Don't have the answer but I am very interested in whatever it is as "Petal" (a 1998 Transit) goes in for some rust repair work in ten days.
As far as I am aware, the garage will be fitting new inside and outside profiles at three corners and they haven't flagged any problem with getting the spare parts so, after they have bought and fitted them, I will ask for their supplier's details and let you know.
(I appreciate that it is terribly selfish for me to not ask before they do the work but knowing my luck I ask them, I tell you and then you buy the last two sets that are available! Sorry.)
Best regards,

RE: Ford Duetto Mk 5 Transit Autosleeper
Hi
If you haven’t already tried I suspect you may have more luck over on the “Ford Transit” forums. The guys there have a lot of experience in restoring the good old “Trannie”.
I wonder if it’s worth contacting one of the firms offering classic car restorations. They must have to make up parts, presumably often with no form of template. They’d probably want the whole job but it can’t hurt to ask. Nothing ventured and all that.
Hope you get the old gal back on the road SAP.

Very surprised to hear that. Tried any body panel suppliers? They usually deal in pattern make for most vehicles.
Transitparts UK 01268 - 574423 or 574425......give them a call.

I'll second that too. A few Dealers sell on there too.

Another one recommeded by the UK Transit forum:

Though their part references don't seem to match up with yours

Could prove useful to other Mk5 owners on the forum if you post a link to where you purchased from.
Glad you got it sorted anyway.

Meant to do this yesterday but forgot, this is the place i got the parts, my Duetto is a Mk4 New Generation but had confirmation from Ford and the Garage that although these are the Mk5 part numbers they will fit.

From your opening post, this surprises me even more!
Judging by all accounts, the Garage doing your repairs and Ford Agents themselves simply do not appear to have been 'communicating' very well at all! Generally once any vehicle is taken into a Bodyshop for accident repair, that is the last you will see or hear of your vehicle until the work is either completed......or been written off. It appears they were perfectly happy to sit back and let you do their donkey work for them!

Re: Auto Sleeper Duetto New Wings
Hi there,
There seems to be a national shortage of Mk 5 Transit wings and here in Lincolnshire it took my local garage two weeks to source three of them!
A friend in the business tried to help and gave me two [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] addresses but both of them were "Out of Stock"! Apparently the garage now have the wings, they have been welded on and filled and all I am waiting for now is the paint job.
Three weeks from yesterday with no transport apart from cycles and bus; plus my best shoes and trousers are in the wardrobe. That's life I guess!
Best regards,

No idea why as outer arch/wing panels are ten a penny as are most Ford "bits".
Inner arches are hardly the most obscure or unwanted items and by way of example some months back I was searching for a LH (passenger side) battery tray. I mean.....just how many battery trays might Ford sell in a year?!!! Being 'handed' makes a LH one even more obscure. Rang a local Ford Dealer......."yep, no problem, how many do you want?" Cost was just over £100 so I kept phoning around until I found a breaker with one.......just a tenner!

Hi there,
These were the two sites my mate sent me. Check them out for Transit Mk 5 inner wings and you get:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Out of Stock!
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] - Get a Quote! (They didn't have any for immediate delivery!)
In view of the known corrosion problems of the Ford Transit I really did expect that there would be at least a dozen factories in China churning out the relevant spares!!
Best regards,
Ian

It is a bit weird - Carz have the rear inner wheel arches at under £40 each.
I'm speaking with them tomorrow about a rear bumper blade, so I'll ask them why they don't have the front inner arches on their website.

Hi there,
For me it's not a problem as the garage have sourced all they need for this session; but I suppose that all owners of "Duettos of a Certain Age" need to know that the spares are available from somewhere.

Poland is one of the biggest sources of non-OE Transit parts, though a breaker in my locality who deals entirely in Transits often gets a visit off some Polish lads in a big Mercedes van towing a trailer who drive over to UK every year buying up Transit parts. They take them back to Poland, refurbish, then re-sell.

LOL.......no way will he get it through an MOT like that!!
Must admit that photo reminded me of an old '93 Tranny I used to own where the inner wing under the battery tray had gone much worse than that. In fact it was totally shot! I took the van to a welder who virtually fabricated a complete inner wing. He told me, fabricating wasn't a problem......finding some metal to weld it into was!!

Well the OSF & NSF Inner Wings i've been searching for ages for finally arrived yesterday afternoon only 3 days from order to delivery, so hopefully my Duetto will once more ride out of the ashes.

Re: Auto Sleeper Duetto New Wings
Good to hear you're sorted now.
Just for completeness, I did ask Carz, and they said that the inner front wings are just about the only Mk4/5 panel that no aftermarket panel maker can supply - so it really does seem to be genuine Ford parts only for now. I was wondering whether it might be due to the complexity of the shape, but really that's just speculation - nobody seems to know.
