Water tank in w reg Duetto is broken.Don’t use the water in van. I think it’s a health hazard having that old water stuck in there. The mobile repairer said just leave it  I am not sure this is a good idea - too difficult to replace tap. I am not handy.van is very old, can manage w bottled water. Do you need water in the tank to operate the toilet  to flush ??

Depends on your toilet.
Does it have a water fill point where the cassette lives, which you add pink to?
If so then no.
Pic would help if unsure 🤔

As IanH said - normally a separate flush tank as an integral part of the Thetford toilet - I can send a pic of mine tomorrow if that would help explain.

FWIW I had an AS Symbol from 2002 so a similar vintage to your van and that had a separate tank for the toilet.  It was visible when the rear doors are open as I recall. Totally separate from the main tank.

I know our Duetto was older but the water for the flush was from the main tank. It was the bench type toilet.

I know our 1999 Duetto had a separate flush tank but can't remember how it was accessed.

Just spent and enjoyable few minutes looking at pictures from the time, they didn't help with my question but resurrected some lovely memories of people we met in ASOC at the time but are no longer with us.

Our '97 Duetto had a separate toilet tank accessed at the n/s rear. If yours is similar, it's independent of the main water tank

1) The shower operates from water in the underslung fresh tank (filler on offside of van).

2) Yes but its an entirely separate tank from the fresh water. Filled through the upper most tube (it swivels out) in your photo. The gauge is the glass tube to the left.
