Duetto fresh water tank
Good afternoon,
I have a Duetto which I bought new in
2008.I have those poor barrel type drain taps
On the tanks.I have redone the waste tap on
The waste tank .The problem i have is the drain
tap on the fresh water tank is breaking up.
I have to drop the tank but bolts are rusted solid.
Before I cut of has anyone had this before.
I believe it is on roof hangers with strap across from what I
Can see.
Where do you get them from as quite long or is there a work around.

One place is AS themselves, I have often bought parts from them and found that the service was quite quick. I had a Duetto on a MK7 Transit and the tank was held by 4 hangers and 2 cross strips. The nuts on the ends of the hangers do get rusty, but I would have thought you should be able to free them given some penetrating oil and patience (use a ring spanner on the nuts to avoid rounding the shoulders)

I've had exactly the same issue though as you can see mine is a Duetto Mk5 Transit. I doubt there will be much difference and mine had to be dropped to fit a new tap. Having pretty bad arthritis my days of crawling under vans are long gone so i gave the job to the garage i have my van tested at. They just shot the van up on the 4 poster and did the job in less than half an hour and charged me just £20!!Daveydog wrote:Hi guys

Forget soaking those bolts. Like yours, mine were seized solid through rusting so the mechanic guy took a cutter to them and they were off in seconds. The steel banding straps were in good nick so once he'd fitted the tap, he used threaded stainless steel bar and bolts to fasten the straps back up. Also gave all the metal bits a liberal coating of waxoyl (despite being stainless!) so if that tank ever has to be dropped again, there won't be any problem undoing the nuts.
For the sake of a few pence that's what AS should have used from new instead of mild steel. Hope this helps.

Use stainless....it's cheap enough and obviously won't ever rust. My garage didn't even charge me for the bar as the amount needed isn't much at all. Use nyloc nuts to fasten.Daveydog wrote:Thank you for information.

Couldn't agree more, Stainless are effectively no more expensive than no stainless, no brainer!!Bulletguy wrote:Use stainless....it's cheap enough and obviously won't ever rust. Late reply.
Solved has long roof hangers on tank try to get them via marquis but ones supplied to short.
Went to builders merchant and got galvanised threaded bar and had to bend to make hooks and then cut to size.
Had to angle grind off old ones. Fitted and greased up the new ones I fabricated.
Note that the waste tank has even longer roof hangers on it.
At least I have a fix now .

Glad you finally had success and at least you've been able sort it in better weather too! I wasn't surprised you had to cut them off. Quite why steel is used in an area so open to the elements i've no idea as it really is penny pinching at the extreme.
