Whale Pump
Hi I have a new Symbol, just prepping to go away for a few days and I have filled the water tank , the pump appears to be running but no water is coming out of the taps, any suggestions.

It can take a time. Have a tap open and run the pump for a minute or so, then give it a rest and try agiain. It should come through after a few tries!

Re: Whale Pump
Thanks, I’ve tried that a few times, even left it for 5 mins without success , was worried if I left it to long it might overheat the pump , doesn’t appear to be drawing the water through ,

Re: Whale Pump
If you have any rough roads nearby, take it for a run , it can shock it into working .

You didn't forget to close the dump valve did you and lost what you put in today did you? You wouldn't be the first.

No point in draining all water until winter just causes more problems

Re: Whale Pump
If you’ve taken on board previous comments, we had this problem for a while on new van. Advice was a air lock-in pump. Try turning pump on and off quickly a few times, alternatively we found the drive to site usually fixed it. SMC replaced pump under warranty, cured problem

Re: Whale Pump
I had the same problem his morning in our nearly new WXL. we're going away tomorrow.
I just kept trying ie turning the pump off and on and eventually it settled down and is working fine. One thing I did was run the pump for a while with all the taps closed then opened them one at a time then after a while all OK.
Best of luck I know how frustrating it is.

Re: Whale Pump
I’ve found having all the taps open whilst filling the water tank has helped resolve this on my van, I wait until the level is at least 50% before running the pump. I drain down after each trip and refill the night before leaving home. Sometimes it takes a couple or three attempts (pump on - pump off etc.) to get the pump to draw water out of the tank.

Re: Whale Pump
Hi all thanks for you advice , thankfully it wasn’t newbie user error but a broken pump, replaced by the dealer today under warranty, The new tank and pump are sealed evidently so there’s no inspection trap , fingers crossed this one works for longer

Re: Whale Pump
When it fails again, have it replaced with SureFlo pump. We've never had anymore problems since we changed ours.

Re: Whale Pump
C8LLE,
I wouldn’t wait until the next failure, I’d replace with a Shurflo pump as soon as the warranty expires. Whale submersible pump failures are not uncommon, plenty reported on here, and are a faff to replace as you’ve found. Imagine dealing with a failure while somewhere remote, like a Scottish island.
Shurflo pumps are more reliable and are not fitted in the tank, so more accessible if a problem occurs. AS previously fitted Shurflo pumps but changed to Whale to save money.

Re: Whale Pump
It's a faff to replace on the road but at home you don't need to drop the tank as you can leave the Whale in as the input.
