VW Trooper advice please
Hello All,
I am about to purchase a VW trooper (2007) reg with only 65K on the clock, 4 owners. Is there anything i should be looking out for before I purchase? i.e anything that usually goes wrong during the vans life?
The vehicle has a partial service history (previous owners did oil changes themselves) but current owners have kept things up, although no habitation checks.
Apologies in advance if this is a simple question, I'm a newbie to AS and Camper vans!
Regards
Andrew

Rust and rust - have a good look underneath and check the previous MoT tests. Check the Cam belt has been changed. Habitation wise I would get a full check done as faults can be expensive. Not sure about the pop top as I have a Trident with a fixed roof.

As Nigelbs says - look for rust. On a 2007 van you should expect to see none of any significance, so if you do, it will be due to neglect or accident damage.
What gearbox - manual or auto? What engine? If it's the 5-cylinder there is no cambelt to change - if it's the 4-cylinder then there is.

Check appliances function correctly
Fridge 240v, 12v & gas
Water gets hot on 240V & gas
Diesel heater if fitted starts up and gets hot runs off diesel in fuel tank
Aircon if fitted gets cold
2 remote keys are supplied and small key for water tank filler cap.
Locking wheel bolt key if alloys and locking wheel bolts fitted.

Hi
+ more rust ! Not just on the underside, look where the fibreglass top joins the metalwork, especially above the windscreen. The black drainage channels chuck all the water here. Fixing it is difficult and expensive (unless you do it yourself) as a neighbour of mine found out to his cost.

Hey all,
Many thanks for all the replies. Plans have changed somewhat; the vehicle had multiple fails on its MOT history and large gaps in the service history so a no no. I will let you know if I find enough, your advice will prove invaluable.
