Some people have been reporting problems obtaining gearbox parts. I suspect that this is because their garages don't know where to access parts and don't want to spend lots of time looking for them. I would take it to a local gearbox specialist because they are more likely to know where to source what you need. If the van is in good condition it is probably worth getting the whole gearbox rebuilt and new clutch etc then the transmission should last the lifetime of the vehicle.

As you live in Northwich have you tried Car Transplants at Nantwich?

You also need to know what other vehicles that particular power train was fitted to.

I don't know if it's the the same gearbox but worth looking into.

I probably wouldn't even try repairing the existing gearbox. Once you have an old gearbox apart, there are a lot of things which could need attention. It's likely to be more economical to get hold of a rebuilt one from a gearbox specialist, on an exchange basis, including a warranty. Economies of scale mean they will be cheaper than getting a local garage to rebuild it. There are a few places nationally, I'm sure. Some will even fit the gearbox while you wait as well, so it's a drive in, wait while it's swapped over, and drive home again afterwards type of thing. I don't know anything about these people, but this was the first one I found:

Went past Car Transplants yard a couple of weeks ago and it was empty, dont know if they've moved or ceased trading.Bulletguy wrote:As you live in Northwich have you tried Car Transplants at Nantwich?

I hadn't been there for ages but Google threw this up which suggests they've moved to Winsford;Paulmold wrote:Went past Car Transplants yard a couple of weeks ago and it was empty, dont know if they've moved or ceased trading.Bulletguy wrote:As you live in Northwich have you tried Car Transplants at Nantwich?

In 2017 M&W autos at Wisbech fired the last known new old stock gearbox to my 1999 Harmony 1.9tdi. Contact Maurice on 01945410746 to check on the latest situation. Have your vin number to hand so he (or anyone else) can check which type of gearbox applies to your vehicle.
Best of luck, Terry
