Water filling issues on Warwick XL 2014
Have not use the van since last summer and it has been drained down.
Yesterday we tried to fill the fresh water without success! We have searched several forums and cannot find a solution to our problem. Basically cannot fill water system using the Whale hose or Small pump! There is no noise from the impeller when using the small water pump hose and can. Also when connecting the long Whale hose to the tap then to the filler at the side of the van. I think the small pump uses 12v so have cleaned all contacts on the unit and the van. Also can’t find a fuse. When using the hose I think this just fills using water pressure but still no water enters the water tank. It’s as if the tank is full and the unit’s automatically shuts off (as it has for the past 7 years of using this can and filling system). Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It appears you have done the obvious checks and cleaned all contacts. But may I suggest you satisfy yourself that metal contacts are clean by being nice and bright. Have had the same problem perhaps to a lesser degree as after cleaning, despite this finally had to wiggle the Whale hose connection to suddenly hear the pump working. Apologies if you've done all this.

Are habitation electrice switched on? Easy to forget and it won't fill if they are off!

Re: Water filling issues on Warwick XL 2014
My Warwick has two filling points. One is on the driver side and where the Whale hose or external pump connects and the other on the passenger side for manual filling by hose or watering can etc. From my understanding the long Whale connector hose needs tap pressure to fill and doesn't use an onboard pump at all and the short hose with pump on the end just sucks up from an Aquaroll or such. In both of these cases the onboard electrical bit stops the water when the tank is full. It sounds like the system certainly thinks the tank is full or as mentioned, the contacts are dirty. What does your water gauge say on the control panel? If you have got a manual filling point, try filling from there - you will soon see if the tank is full when it escapes under the van via the overflow, and as Inspiredron says, make sure the electrics are on if using the Whale connectors.

Hi all, thanks for the many useful suggestions, it certainly helps by process of elimination. Having read the comments I now suspect an internal sensor ‘telling the hose’ that the tank is full and needs to shut off water supply! I’ve come to this conclusion as I have throughly cleaned the contacts on the short hose pump and the ‘pressure hose’ does not work either Have checked and double checked habitation power etc is on. Might try sticking a manual hosepipe up the freshwater drain pipe (as I have no other manual inlet like some other owners have) to see if I can get some water in the tank which will hopefully release a sensor if lucky!!

Well I’ve now managed to fill the fresh water tank to 100% using a hose strapped and taped up to the drain hose!! Still not working when drained to 75% and tried refilling with Whale hose. . Will take for a short drive to shake things up to see if a sensor repairs itself. I fully expect this to fail but I’m trying anything short of taking it to a dealer and being charged an over the top price to fix.

Re: Water filling issues on Warwick XL 2014
I had a very similar sounding problem with the Whale filler on my 2010 Nuevo. After trying a replacement solenoid I had the problem checked out when I had the habitation service. The issue turned out to be the internal wiring/contacts in the Whale inlet unit in the side of the van. This was replaced and cured the problem (although I haven't been able to verify this yet myself).
There was an issue trying to get a replacement part from Whale who didn't seem to know anything about the specific part. After some chasing around, Propex at Ringwood came up with the goods. I was charged £38 +VAT for the new part (plus labour to fit) which seemed very reasonable to me.
Also, while having the problem I also filled the fresh water tank from the drain valve. To help with this I bought an adapter that fitted over the end of the drain tap and secured with a jubilee clip thumbscrew. Unfortunately I can't find out where I bought this from - somewhere on the Internet! This made it quick and easy to fill the fresh tank from below.

I believe the adapter I bought was a G7928 20mm-30mm Smooth Tap Connector. A Google search brings up plenty of suppliers.

A similar issue was discussed on this forum some time ago:

Just a thought, I assume you have already checked the fuse that protects the whale pump and possibly the whale fill point. On my van its fuse 4 in the EC155.

Thank you for your comments and info regarding the adapter. I think the issue must be a switch or electrical contact as you suggest!

Thanks for the link. I did check the fuses but couldn’t identify which one. I’ll check again.
