Re: Weather
Back in '98/'99 I worked for a Christmas tree grower doing the marketing to garden centres. I shared an office with the farm manager who refused to employ local Brits because they just weren't good workers. He usually got Aussies and New Zealand guys who really put in a shift.

Re: Weather
I used to earn £20 a week at Parfits fruit farm near Swanton Morley. (1965)All was fine until the gang masters appeared with mini buses full of pickers, I didn't hang about to see what nationality they were.
If a picker is getting a 1K a week, is this before they paid the GM and for sleeping accommodation?
Turned out overcast with a chilly breeze.

Re: Weather
A dull, wet and cold morning. Back to unsettled weather for the next week or so looks like the daily walks will be a bit curtailed

Frosty night but bright sunny morning, hopefully it will last all day! Wet weather coming along by Wednesday so need to get the gates built and up before then! Still not much interest in the nest boxes from the birds, maybe they have too much choice!

Re: Weather
Dry overnight here, thin, indistinct high cloud as the sun rises with patches of pale blue. Birds surprisingly restrained.

Re: Weather
It's the lull before the storm here, flat, dull and dry. We have the first lot of wind and rain hitting us later today with a wee break before the big storm tomorrow evening. Think we get to share that with most of the west coast, so get your hatches battened

Mower? Our grass hasn't grown since September. It'll need several more degrees C before it shifts.

Re: Weather
A bright if cold day here after an overcast early morning. I filled the bird bath and fountain whilst the bacon was cooking.
After the sparrow squadron have been for there morning visit the water is all over the floor. At one point there were eight in the bird bath.
I have noticed a little wren like bird this last few days. Consulting the bird book it could be a female robin. The male robin hasnt been around for a while. If the workshop door was open it would sit and watch me from the garden.
It must be getting brighter because the solar fountain started to run at half ten as it does in the summer. Unless management has other plans a bit of workshop time this afternoon. I will put the heater on now to take the night chill off.

Re: Weather
Our robins went missing about three weeks ago. We have two that we often see together. One returned about a week ago, but we've not seen two together.
In December we were delighted to see a pair of nuthatches on the feeder but they've been missing for a couple of months. We've got blue * Inappropriate Word * by the gross and coal * Inappropriate Word *, gold finches and a herd of long tailed * Inappropriate Word * too. I've also seen a wren on our outdoor table but it whipped back into the hedge. That's not to mention the hooligan starlings, rooks that think they're sparrow size and fall off the feeders in an inelegant bundle. There's loads of sparrows and a male and female blackbirds plus a pair of pigeons. Sadly not a sign of a thrush.

Re: Weather
If last night was the smaller of our storms then tonight should be interesting. We got a right battering with gusty winds and heavy rain. Dry and fairly mild now so I need to get out to the the wheelie bins and garden furniture down.

Re: Weather
A bit warmer here but damp. I was late going down this morning so I think the birds have been and gone or they are tucked up out of the rain.
A day in the workshop today. It’s quite nice listening to the rain on the roof and chilling out.

Re: Weather
Plenty of rain driven on by gusty winds last night but no where near the forecast storms predicted. Quiet and fairly bright now but a few days of heavy showers to come. Temperature is 12°c so pretty mild.
