Auto-sleepers buying advice
Hi,
I am looking for a buying advice.
We really like Auto-sleepers interiors setup with the sofa turning into a bed which makes sense for having more room during the day.
We are from France and this kind of setup is extremly rare, almost impossible to find.
The problem is we would like to have a leftside steering wheel as well.
I have seen a few autosleepers Van on ebay.co.uk with the left hand driving side.
We wanted a manual transmittion and 4 belts would be nice. i would try also to contact Autosleepers retailers to see if we can find that.
thank you

Re: Auto-sleepers buying advice
Very unlikely to see left hand drive Auto-sleepers for sale in UK. Unfortunately Autosleeper is used as a generic term for motorhomes especially home conversions, so be careful when looking on Ebay UK.

We,and thousands of others drive our right hand drive motorhomes in Europe, no problem at all, wouldnt be for you either.
Two bonuses......
1 infinitely bigger choice if rhd, as Paul says lhd very rare in Uk
2 when you come to Uk on your holidays, steering wheel will be on the correct side!

LHD is rare for AS but they do exist. Not only is the steering wheel on the wrong side, so is the side door.

In a 'normal' year we tour for about 30 weeks a year (more than half our life would be 'in the van') with 24 or so weeks (2 three month tours) spent 'over there'...
However, we have a RHD vehicle for a number of reasons but the overriding one is that, IMHO, it's far easier to drive a RHD vehicle on Europes less crowded, more open roads than it is to drive with LHD (especially a MH) on our manic, unsympathetic roads.
Our hab door is on both the 'wrong' and 'right' side, depending on where we are.

Yep, this is what i tought, it is rare. I would try to find out with AS by sending them an email.
Yes plenty of choice with RhD, altough i have never tried driving on that side. My wife is a little scared, and i feel weird thinking about it too..

Hi,
I found that they do sell Lefthand drive Autosleeper in Belgium but it is full price. I was thinking about buying a lefthand drive already made , and just i could modify the back myself, just the bed and a table.
Any advice ?

Hi FilouFilou
There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing people doing their own conversions with lots of advice on how to tackle all sorts of problems. As an alternative, certainly in the UK, there are plenty of small companies who offer to convert ordinary vans for camping use and there may be the same in France....
Most of us find driving on the wrong side of the road in Europe is very easy and becomes second nature quickly. Having the sliding door on the outside is just something you would get used to.
Best wishes
John
