Kampa Dometic motion drive away awning 2020
Hi Forum members.
Loving our van and considering a suitable awning for when we do longer stays.
This awning is one we are considering and wondered if members have views on how good it has been for them. On the assumption it actually fits the Fairford Plus.
We like the idea of driveaway as an essential element for us. Also there is an option to install a 2 birth tent should family want to stay over etc. Not an essential requirement but nice to have the option.
This awning appears to come in two sizes to accommodate differing van heights so fingers crossed there is a forum member out there who has one on a Fairford or similar and can recommend.
Would love to get any thoughts about this or indeed other awning we should be considering.
Many thanks in advance of your views.
Kind regards
Brackjo

If you have a wind out awning avoid safari rooms, you only have to see how many are for sale to realise their restrictions. We had an inflatable drive away awning but because of the sliding door it was as easy to just step across the gap. It depends how long you stay in a location, we did find it to be very resilient in high winds. Now have a Quest pop up, literally goes up in seconds but still don’t use it much as we move regularly.

Re: Kampa Dometic motion drive away awning 2020
I have been doing a bit of searching for an awning for the WXL and the thing I have noticed is that most of them now come with sewn in ground sheets and these are raised at the door entrance which would make it hard for the other half to step in and out or drive the mobility scooter in ,
I have found some that have flat ground sheets and these are the quest and Westfield and also a kampa model , the kampa air motion has a height of 205 to 235 would this be high enough as my height is 245cm from bottom of awning to ground

Dear All
Many thanks for your information, ideas and great photos.
Its really good to see we have both options and specific awnings suggested to fit our van.
We do like the idea of the ability of having the stated awning with the ability to have the 2 birth internal tent annex due to our large family.
Would be great if any has actually got such an awning that fits the Fairford plus. Very happy to use a stopper on the door if this is required.
Again many thanks to everyone who has contributed so far.
Very much appreciated
Regards

The awning am using is just threaded in to the roll out awning channel,I am not using a driveaway strip at the moment, it also has the option of a seeping compartment been attached in side ,surly the Fairford Plus is the same size as the rest in height

Thanks Chris
Really appreciate the clarifications on your awning and it’s a possibility for us.
We are wanting a drive away unit as I understand this type of awning will allow us to effectively disconnect from the van and allow us to travel locally with ease of disconnection.
Yes the van height will be the same. We need to examine the width implications and it’s appearing a door stop of some sort will be essential and is perhaps a good thing irrespective. Is there a recommend stopper for the van?

Yes this is a drive away awning and can be connected with the drive away kit , a have a door stop fitted that I made so the door can be opened to allow access to the switches and socket
The rear of the awning has a zippin panel to allow it to beclosed off when the tunnel is removed from the van,
The only modification I am going to make are to the ground sheet and front and side door ,stitching more Velcro to get a better close at night

Re: Kampa Dometic motion drive away awning 2020
I was lucky that someone on site was selling it so tried it on the van , fitted good and gave them £200 for it, only 3 months old used once . So a few mods and the jobs a goodun as they say

Can I ask how you manage transporting the awning and mobility scooter, we carry a similar scooter between the beds/sofas with battery and basket under near side seat. Have to put the chassis of the scooter between the front seats on its side at night with motorised rear wheels in passenger footwell and seat on driver's seat, presumably you can leave the scooter in awning overnight?

Re: Kampa Dometic motion drive away awning 2020
I carried it on the bike rack ,stripped the heavy rear end and battery off and Cary those between the seats on a nonslip mat, the bike rack has a maximum load of 35kg the awning was just in between the seats but with it only weighing 10 kg it will also be strapped on top of the scooter body

Re: Kampa Dometic motion drive away awning 2020
OK All another step forward,
Been to Glossop Awnings today (lovely area) and looked at the Kampa Rally Air Pro 330 drive away awning.
We now think it is perfect awning for the Fairford Plus (6.34m Peugeot Boxer Van conversion).
The rational is we can have the side slide door fully open without having to have a stopper fitted (to stop the door hitting the awning tunnel side wall), but more importantly get the full feel of openness possible between the van and the awning without the air support pillar being in the line of sight. It will also provide good space for our table chairs etc and storage if required.
It seems we could also have the option of attaching into the Thule Canopy either directly, or use a twin keder & figure of eight to create a drive away utilising the Thule canopy. Alternatively just using webbing straps on the awning tunnel thrown over the van and anchored down. Just removing these when wanting to drive away.
Considered the same model in the 260 drive away as well, but its looking like that will close the van door permissible opening down and may be a little too small for future needs with the family stays.
Anyway looks like the first decision is made on the size and we will get the 330, but now its deciding whether to go the whole hog and go for the All-Season material, or stick with the Pro. There is a big uplift in cost, but is this worth it?
To all forum members who have purchased either the 330 drive away in pro fabric or All Season, or have really researched and have views on either of these Awning for use with this van I'd really love to hear your views.
This is a big investment for us on top of the Van so want to ensure I get it right.
Hope to hear from you soon
Regards
