Boxer 2000 gear change sticky
Hi
Just bought a 2000 Harmony and am finding engaging 1st gear hard. It can also need quite a good push to move into 2nd, but after that is much easier.
I have found blipping the throttle can help a bit, but am still a bit worried (having the 'have a bought the wrong van symdrome').
Will getting the linkages greased help (and if so how is this done)???
I have been told that th clutch is new, and it certainly bites just off the floor...
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Graham

Re: Boxer 2000 gear change sticky
Very occasionally I have difficulty on my van and invariably it is because I have not pressed the clutch pedal fully down.
If your clutch bites very quickly might the problem be that it is not disengaging fully? That would cause difficulty in 1st and 2nd that would not be noticed with higher gears. Blipping the throttle would encourage the clutch to disengage even if not fully depressed.

I also have a 2000 Harmony but it has a recon diesel gearbox with a petrol engine. 1st can be tricky at times. Perhaps the gearbox on yours has been replaced at some point (like mine) because of the water ingress to gearbox from windscreen drain problem (that I think has been covered elsewhere on the forum)? - I've been telling myself that crispness on mine is due to it being stiff and new....!

Try this, lift the gaiter from around the gear lever and give the knuckle joints that you can see a squirt of WD40

Hi,
The clutch pedal settings are a little strange on these vans, you have to adjust the height of the pedal from the floor by winding the adjuster nut at the engine end, unfortunately I no longer have the measurement but if the brake and clutch pedals are about the same you won't be far wrong, strangely enough you do not have free play which is normal with clutch cables. There is also a setting for the gear change measured from the centre of the steering wheel. If you squeeze under the van you can see the gear change levers and give them a good squirt of lubrication. Last, make sure that the gearbox oil is Not the latest specification thin stuff from Peugeot, this gives a stiff gear change on the older vans, make sure you have the old fashioned thick stuff.

Re: Boxer 2000 gear change sticky
I have managed to adjust the clutch. The problem appears to be that the lock nut was not tight, which had allowed the clutch to slowly wind out so that it bit just above the floor.
All better now and the gear change is now fine.

Pleased that you got it sorted. It did sound like clutch adjustment was needed!
