Damp spot in Trident Empty Damp spot in Trident

Post by Savbo Sun Jun 09, 2019 9:50 pm

Hi all - we’ve just noticed a bit of damp in our 2002 Trident, it’s in where the big table goes behind the driver’s seat. We’re getting a mobile service guy out soon but in the meantime any ideas ?

Hi all - looks like this is same issue as for an old thread  about a damp spot in a Symbol, leaky side window. Hopefully sorted by Nigel the mobile caravan engineer...

Has rain water got in through the fridge vents?

Take the fridge vents off and reseal them, common fault with Tridents

Agree with mac on this. But, after resealing fridge the vents I found there was also a leak from the sliding window above the fridge. Removing the whole window and resealing to the bodywork cured this. Also it is common on these vehicles for water from a leaking front windscreen seal to track to the back beneath the front carpet and sound deadening underlay.

Thanks all, the window sealing hasn’t completely stopped the problem so I’ll check the vents. Is it obvious how to resell once the grilles are off?
Newt, how would I know if there’s a windscreen leak?

Re-sealing the window properly is a tricky job. I'm surprised this was your first line of attack. Fridge vents are straightforward: remove all screws - 8 each vent I think. Carefully remove plastic vent by cutting/prising old sealant. Clean off all old sealant from plastic and body edges, remove any rust, treat and paint as required. Replace vents using white sealant of choice - silicone or preferably urethane seam sealant.
Windscreen leak - check for wetness under front carpet and sound deadening floor liner. Remove seats and take it all out preferably. Dry floor completely if wet. Hose windscreen and look for moisture trickling down from behind dash. Also look for rust around windscreen seal. Hope this helps. Paul.

Sorry for delay in updating this, but thought I should close off the story. When we removed the fridge vents, the wee screws holding the inner plastic vent were rusted in place and some already stripped, so we had to get someone to remove those - when he did, he found there was NO sealant behind the vents.... all replaced with new sealant and new screws, ran a dehumidifier in there for days and all seems well now. Thanks everyone for your help.
