Locked out by Duetto
On a recent trip to Scotland we locked the van doors overnight by pressing the button inside the passenger door, and in the morning opened the back door from the inside and went to the loo, leaving both sets of keys in the van. (We've done this many times before, but this time.... ) When we returned - you've guessed - the van was locked. Remote camp site, phones, money & keys in van, wind & rain, and we're in PJs!
Finally we gave in and smashed a window, which involved a lot of mess, expense and inconvenience. I've not been able to replicate the problem since, so I don't understand what happened, or how to avoid it (apart from never leaving the van without a key, obviously).
Any ideas, explanations, tips please?

It could have been worse.....you in your thong and wife in a see-thru baby doll nightie!
I once did exactly the same with my van! It's alarmed so has central locking and foolishly i'd left the key in the ignition, closed the side door from the outside...only to hear the locks whir into action and realise i was locked out!
Fortunately i was on a campsite in Luxembourg but about to leave for Belgium. The site owner contacted an auto locksmith guy and half an hour later i had the door opened....but relieved of 40 euro!

Re: Locked out by Duetto
Another after the event but during our Duetto ownership we had the same problem. Opening the rear door didn't unlock the doors so as we shut the rear door it re-locked. I came across this during my time at the roadside and not wanting the embaresment of calling the lads out to my van I cable tied a spare key to a secret location under the van.

Here's my contribution to this perennial topic:
I confirm that our Nuevo acts exactly as described by Gromit. (below).
Gromit wrote: Be aware of an anomaly on some vans with the locking handle as shown by Ploughlin. (Possibly others too??) It could cause problems.
Status = Cab doors locked . . . habitation door unlocked.
If you now unlock the cab doors with the fob, the hab door is usually (though strangely not always) locked at the same time. (This also happens if the hab door is wide open, on vans with the electrics connected via a cable at the bottom of the hinged side.)
The same thing happens if you open or lock the cab doors using a key rather than a fob. The fact of the matter is that by now I'm so wary of being locked out that when on a holiday I never leave the van without taking the keys. Gromit says: "(though strangely not always)" and that sums it up: the locking system is not 100% predictable. Although I've stored a spare key externally, I now try to take the keys with me every single time I get out.

Get yourself a dumb key cut at Sainsbury's and hide it somewhere outside, we did after a similar situation.

Re: Locked out by Duetto
Remember that the later Mk 7 (2006 on) only had a key lock in the drivers door (and yes the bonnet,)
There is another way in which I had to execute when I parked against a wall and the leisure battery went flat.!!

Re: Locked out by Duetto
With our van locked by the fob and on trying to exit via rear door all hell was let loose, woke up the camp site, as the vehicles alarm started UP.
Now to try by locking via front door handles.
