Additional key Empty Additional key

Post by yvonneid Mon Mar 11, 2019 12:34 pm

Hi everyone. I want to buy an additional key for my van, which will only open the van door, not start the engine. Opening just the door I'm using it on will be fine, it doesn't need to work the central locking. Would buying an empty shell, ie without battery or electronics, with an uncut blade which i'll then get cut locally, work? Or do there have to be electronics in there just to open the door? I have a 2003 Peugeot Boxer Harmony. Thank in advance.

Check out Timpsons at your local supermarket.

We got a key that opens the driver's door and fuel filler cap only for about £12. They can also supply fully chipped keys much cheaper than your Peugeot dealer.

Good idea.  We did this many years ago after the hab door closed and locked us both out.

Doesn't need the chip for doors.

Even modern 'keyless' cars don't, most have a manual key that you can unclip from the remote so that you can get in if the battery dies.

Only issue is if you have an alarm that needs turning off with the keyfob etc.
