Re: Gearbox
If it does need new gears, they're almost impossible to find.
If it was me, I'd be looking for a scrap van with the same or similar gearbox, I think that there were 3 variants of the 5sp gearbox at that time.

Re: Gearbox
Member Newterry had a gearbox replaced by M&W Autos in Wisbech. Maybe they can help your garage.

Re: Gearbox
There's also the option to have new parts fabricated, one of my foundry customers has (or had) a connection with a specialist gearbox manufacturer.
It's probably expensive, but not as expensive as a scrapped van or a bodged repair.

Re: Gearbox
Try taking it to a different garage for another opinion.
Could be the clutch or driveshaft or driveshaft bearing.
Or gearbox / engine mounting.
Or something else. Explore all possibilities before making the decision to have the gearbox removed and repaired / replaced.

Mine is 1995 and still on the original gearbox. Later models had different gearboxes

Re: Gearbox
If you do an internet search you will find groups of scrapyards running a search facility , you have to enter your reg model and possibly VIN to enable them to provide you with the correct part, often more than one will be available at different prices and warranties. Good luck

Personally, I would heed 'boxerman' suggestion first.Pamela fox wrote:I rang M&W autos they said they could not help me but suggested I look in scrapyards.

Re: Gearbox
If you second opinion is as the first after some searching (as I have a similar vehicle) I came across [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and to quote their web page " Older Peugeot camper vans repairs from [ML 5 Speed Type] £850 Parts at MLP + Vat Price adjustment effective 25/04/2017. Includes Bearings, Synchros & seals, excludes gears hubs and shafts when available or re-engineered or modified gears."
I assume thats with the box removed and delivered, definitely worth a phone call I would think.

Re: Gearbox
Pamela,
Sorry I'm a bit late to this one. If you pm me with your vin no. I can get your original factory build notes which includes the specific gearbox fitted and there's also an exploded diagrm showing individual parts and their reference numbers.
I'm going away today and will be back Tuesday 13th November. It's worth bearing in mind that both Citroen and Peugeot cars of a similar age are also affected by this issue.
Regards
Terry
