water in the gearbox
meevan has been given a clean bill of health for another year today - hooray!
one point, however, there was water in the gearbox and i was informed that it is a fault with the peogeot boxer drainage channels which allow water to fall on the aluminium top of gearbox and it seeps in.
has anyone else had this problem?
has anyone found a way of channelling the water away from engine parts to stop this happening?
i would appreciate any help please
thanks

Re: water in the gearbox
Do a forum search for "peugeot gearbox" and you will find a thread about this with over 90 replies. It should tell you pretty much everything you need to know on the subject.

Hi TC
This is a known 'design feature' of these base vehicles. Even on the latest models water ingress through the scuttle into the Engine bay and beyond, is a common problem. My previous 'water diversion' solutions were based on the latest X250 design Boxer/ Fiat cab and involved fitting a new scuttle and bonding it to screen. Opening up the drain holes at each end of the scuttle, fitting inserts and connection flexi pipes to divert the water away behind the front wheels. This works for earlier Boxers as well. I think there are a number of posts on this forum, if you use the search facility.
Regards
John

water in the gearbox
Hi Tc,
Glad your van was ok, as stated by another member this has been dealt with in detail, if they have changed your gearbox oil I suggest you look at the thread and do
the recommended fix before it gets contaminated again, there is an improved Scuttle pipe that points forward rather than backwards so that the water instead of going on
the gearbox empties near the front radiator, all the part numbers etc are on the thread and the part in question cost me about £18 and took about and hour, the hardest
part was emptying the gearbox and replacing the speedo drive which snapped which is a sure sign that there is water in the gearbox but if you have already had this done
it should be a doddle,
Good luck:up!:
best regards
Pat

Re: water in the gearbox
many thanks for your help everyone - i've let my garage guy know about the 'kit' and he is going to let me know when he can do the job.
it would appear from the threads that peugeot haven't learnt any lessons or done anything about this fault - shame on them!

re Water in the gearbox
Trish, we all share your pain ........ but thankfully there a number of very knowledgeable members who can help us out. I've had the new Water Evacuation Pipe done and so far so good. In my case, without boring everybody, my Harmony was built and sat in a field for 9 months over a winter waiting to be sold as 'new' with water dripping onto the gearbox all that time. Pity we didn't have 'tinternet back in '99 !!!
