Insurance Renewal Empty Insurance Renewal

Post by Martin Dodsworth Mon Apr 02, 2012 3:49 pm

As a new convert to camper van ownership, having purchased an old (1992) Trident last year, I am learning much as I go along. I insured the van through Saga last year under their special Motorhome Insurance. Renewal is now due and I am wondering if there are any other specialist policies that I should be looking at. Renewal premium is £165.00 fully comp, which seems reasonable to me but I wonder if any of you have any alternative suggestions?

Hi Martin

Welcome to the forum.
Insurance costs have been debated quite heavily lately.
Do a search and you should find some info.

BTW introduce yourself in "New Members Please Introduce Yourself Here" section.

Welcome to the forum Martin.
I insure my car with Saga [but not the van] and have done so for the last 3 years as I could not find a better quote. Never had to claim though.

Insurance Renewal Empty Re: Insurance Renewal

Post by bertb Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:22 am

Hello Martin.
I posted this yesterday if it's any help.

'Just been researching my insurance renewal. Currently with Caravan guard, last year,(first with a M/H) £276.50. Not received renewal notice yet so phoned. No luck there. "We will be sending your notice 4 weeks before the due date (3rd May)" Cheapest between CC, C&CC and Comfort is CC at £211, next Comfort at £232 and the C&CC £249.84. And now Saga have quoted £237.The CC also offers to beat your current insurers quote by £25. These are for our 2003 Symbol. As someone else has said these online quotes cannot be trusted so I will wait for C/G price and go from there. Just had phone call from Comfort, 10 minutes from requesting quote.' BTW this is for one 69 year old driver in the East Midlands.

I have since compared the Caravan Club quote and it is like for like with Saga who tried to convince me theirs was better. After some haggling Saga now quote £227.50. Still waiting for Caravan Guard renewal to arrive but I think they will have trouble beating CC £211,

Insurance Renewal Empty Insurance

Beware Saga, while I was working and used to take the van to my place of work once a week for a 'run-out' to keep the wheels turning, they classed it as commuting and wouldn't cover me. Best check the small print.

Insurance Renewal Empty Latest Scam!!

Post by Dutto Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:05 pm

Hi there,

Seen the advert where the nice insurance company promises to cover you "even if you are hit by an uninsured driver"??? confused3

If you are Fully Comprehensive THEY HAVE TO COVER YOU no matter who hits you!!

If you are NOT Fully Comprehensive THEY WILL NOT COVER YOUR DAMAGE no matter who hits you!!

In other words they are promising to provide something that they HAVE to provide by law!!! allthumbz

At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!! bouncing

Best regards,

drinksallround

Insurance Renewal Empty Re: Insurance Renewal

Hello again Martin. Don't know if you have resolved your insurance dilemma yet but this is where I am now. Not had renewal notice from Caravan Guard yet but just received a phone call from them. Renewal will be £350. I don't think so. Last year it was £289. Told her best quote was £211. Check with her manager (of course!) Can do it for £318.50. Why would I pay £100 more than I have to? So by being greedy Caravan Guard will receive 100% of nothing. Good business?

Been with Caravan Gaurd for a few years, this year we were told that their underwriter will no longer cover our small coachbuilt ahave to park on the road (don't we all?) however, changed to the caravan club and saved me £150.00 on last years renewal .
£259.00 fully comp legal protection and protected no claims.

Me too Pete. I can't remember what CC quoted me last year but it must have been more than Caravan Guard so I am surprised they are better this time, by a mile! I even phoned CC insurance to double check their price. The only difference is CC policy doesn't include breakdown cover and CG do. I have Mayday cover from the CC anyway for £34 so no advantage there.

Hi Bert,
I have breakdown through CCC arrival ( RAC ).
This covers my wife and myself in any motor. And as my wife has a car, I had to have the cover, just received a renewal notice for the house via the AA, this will include breakdown cove for the car,if I decide to renew.
Pete.

CCC is £249.84. Not tried phoning them though. It's not due until end of month along with road tax so leaving it 'til last moment........
