Awoke to light rain, then it poured, then brightened up with broken cloud. No storm so far but forecast from 2pm onwards, temp 22.

Noisy dawn chorus ,mainly Blackies,

Same here but is very hard to get a breath. My wife is out in the garden collecting a glut of strawberries and has made friends with a baby Robin. It's been following her round, serves her right for wearing a red jumper snigger

A mean apology for rain here overnight, not enough to wet the cover over the garden table let alone the water butts. Much cooler though.

I spoke too soon regarding escaping thunderstorms. We've just had torrential downpour, one flash of lightning and a rumble of thunder.

We've just been hit with something akin to a mini tornado uncertain

It was over in about 5 minutes and there was a weird howling noise. It looked like the trees were coming down and our garden has been rearranged. Pouring down now so the sorting will have to wait.

There has been thunder not too far away here. I couldn't hear it but the dog did.

It doesn't frighten her, but she always growls and wants to rush out and attack it.

A few minutes of light rain earlier - not much more than drizzle.

Cooler and fresher here after a couple of showers first thing. We decided to have a run out to Barton on Humber, Far Ings nature reserve. Plenty of room to park and free. The interest centre is still closed but we managed a short walk before lunch with one short shower.
After lunch we walked along the bank top under the bridge for a bit. Not feeling too good after a heavy day in the workshop yesterday so we didn’t walk too far but it was nice sitting in the sun looking across the Humber for a while before we wandered back for another brew.
Next to us was a family with a motorhome having a picnic under the awning. We had to laugh at the smallest one. She had an all in one waterproof suit, pink wellies and a sun hat also clutching teddy. Our daughter had to be dressed like that for any days out that involved any chance of rain. She was a magnet for muddy water. Her brother was no were near as bad. He thought about with he was doing. She would always try and out do him. She even rolled in a puddle like the dog. This is the NHS nurse now and still has mad moments.

Dave, you were nearly on the opposite bank to my paternal grandmother's family home of Laxton, East Yorkshire. Apparently my great grandad served as sexton of St Peter's church and ran a horse and cart service to Howden on market days. He was also reputed to have driven a horse and buggy across the Ouse one winter to visit my great grandma who came from Reedness on the opposite bank.

Well its rained virtually all day here. Every time it stopped we prepared to go for our daily walk and as soon as we stepped out of the door, down it came again. Gave up after third attempt.

Paxton is a bit farther west than were we were today. I used to work in the villages both sides of the river in that area. For some reason they would send me from Scunthorpe rather than sending some one from Hull.
The best one I had in that area was a job at a nursery in Drax. I couldn’t find any thing like a nursery but I found the gate house for the power station. To my surprise it was the Eel nursery at the back of the power station. They used  the warm water to breed Eels.

Fresher feel to the weather this morning, stronger winds drying the place up abit.
Not much of a dawn chorus this morning, nice to see lots of young Swallows darting about ,hopefully it will bring there numbers up again, after a big drop in adults coming up from south of the Equator.

Wee postscript to my post on Saturday about what seemed like a mini tornado. Got into the garden today to find our apple tree split in half down the trunk shrugg I had to cut it down as what was left standing was a danger to our boundary wall. Bit sad, it was well established when we moved in over 30 years ago but now it's gone.

More rain overnight but dry so far today. Very strong winds, it's bin day here and as soon as they are emptied have to go rescue them before they blow down the road.

Do you have a wood burning stove Tony, or whittle your wood into wee green man carvings.    hugegrins
Could have been worse ,might have split your BBQ.

No wood burning stove Boaby, just the gas central heating. I was going to make a carving of Donald Trump's head but I can't find a bit of wood thick enough snigger

Tomorrow's job is cutting the tree enough to transport it to the recycling centre. Everybody needs a hobby shrugg

Before you do that just look at the price on Amazon of small pieces of apple wood being sold to wood turners. Haven’t you got a wood turners group nearby who would probably snatch it from you...or even pay you ?

We have a cherry tree that has become a bit dangerous over winter. We’ve just had the crop of ( Morello) cherries from it and will now take it down but not bin it or burn it until we’ve offered it to wood turners locally.
