Before you do that just look at the price on Amazon of small pieces of apple wood being sold to wood turners. Haven’t you got a wood turners group nearby who would probably snatch it from you...or even pay you ?
We have a cherry tree that has become a bit dangerous over winter. We’ve just had the crop of ( Morello) cherries from it and will now take it down but not bin it or burn it until we’ve offered it to wood turners locally.
I'll certainly have a look, I thought they would only be interested in stuff that was seasoned or kiln dried.

I’d put money on the fact that Lesson 1 in the How To Be A Wood-turner’s handbook is on how to season and prepare your own wood. We visit Stourhead NT gardens fairly frequently and they sell unseasoned wood for stunning prices and that’s fairly common wood. Apple wood is much prized.

From my initial search there doesn't appear to be anyone doing woodturning close us, I've emailed a couple of places a bit further away (if they are working) to see if there's any interest.

You could always dig up the stump for the heading carving Tony.
Dried up this morning, with a cooler westerly breeze, Mavis singing out loud with a tinkle of goldfinches in the back ground.
Have a nice day

Re: Weather
Turned out to be a very pleasant day here, bit cooler but dry and bright.
Sadly I had no takers for our fallen apple tree, even for free. I had two respondents to my email, one was underwhelmed by how much there was (trunk was about 1.5m by 15cms and there was a binbag full of straight branches about 3 or 4cm thick) and the other thought we were too far away.

Re: Weather
A bit of a soggy start at home but it dried up enough to give muttly his wobble to the end of the street.
We are visiting Brodsworth Hall for lunch and a walk in the gardens. It was a bit damp walking round. Dried up enough for a cup of tea before lunch. It’s looking like a brighter afternoon is on its way.

We awoke to damp roads and driveways but dried quick enough and turned out rather nice day.

Dry overnight, however got caught in a heavy shower at 5 a.m, overcast and dreich, could be worse, could be sat in the van, behind a hedge in a field ,paying £30 odd pound a day, roll on summer, or have we had it.

Pouring down here and the forecast is for it to stay that way fo.r a couple of days. Dashed out to bring the bins in only to find one hasn't been emptied yet. Never mind, it will keep the dust down (as my granny never said )

I guess if there is anything to the power of prayer then the combined efforts of local authorities, police and many tourist village or beach-side residents will make sure that this weekend is cold, very wet, very windy and generally grim.
It's looking that way here. Earlier on there were glimmerings of sun but now it is grey and gloomy and looks like rain. Cold too. I can't remember a day when we didn't have wind either.

Re: Weather
Coast road busy this morning with tourists jumping the gun, many seem to be heading for the CAMC site or one of the many wee private sites in the area.
Not looking to bright according to the forecast.

Interesting thought from one of the narrowboaters whose blog I look at.
Boaters can visit their boats for the day now. They can stay overnight from 4th July. So...they arrive today, spend the day on the boat, stay awake until midnight and then they can go to sleep quite legally !
I wonder if your motorhomers and caravanners have thought this way ?

Re: Weather
After constant rain for 24h, it was surprising dry and mild this morning. I went for the paper in my raincoat and was surprised to see dog walkers etc cutting about in shorts and tee shirts. Well, I hope they got home sharpish because the rain is back on and we have weather warnings for damaging winds later.
Better avoid beans on toast for dinner then

After three days of strong winds, today was calm. Ideal for a nice walk on a local beach and sand dunes. Followd by a visit to a new found chippy for a takeaway feed of fish and chips each, which we ate in the car. Social distance was maintained.
Maybe a bike ride tomorrow, weather permitting.
