We barbecued our New Year lunch, as always. Our bbqs are never idle - it was a light lunch today of incinerated minted lamb steaks with sweet and ordinary potato chips and sweet corn. That was over charcoal.
Pizzas tomorrow, on the gas bbq of course, and probably a low and slow cooked rack of sticky ribs later in the week. Or maybe a pork joint on the rotisserie?
Drop in for lunch if you like, but only if you have 2 metre long handled knives and forks!!

It was a lovely spring morning here today. I managed to get the side hedge trimmed and was that side of the Rienza washed. If it’s like this tomorrow I will wash the rest of it. With the drive being a bit tight I have to wash it in stages or move it on to the road.

Yes, some are. Me, I'm a delicate soul
Well we had a BBQ tonight, even although it was cold and windy. What prompted the change of heart? Well our leccie went off at 4.30 and it's likely to be off until 9pm tonight I had marinaded chicken suvlaki and made the tzatziki and Greek salad so needs must. Just thawing out with some alcohol based de-icer

A real treat to a amped up dawn chorus this morning before sunrise Mavis, Blackies and the wee Robins singing their wee hearts out.
Might dig out the BBQ, see what's left in the freezer to cremate.
Unfortunately our Bute Butcher isn't spending out meat packs during this current crisis,so the fillet is not on the menu.

Re: Weather
I think spring has arrived her this morning. Its still a bit chilly in the wind but the birdies dont seem to mind. There was a female blackbird in our fountain slashing water every were. A male blackbird was in the bird bath with two sparrows again splashing water every were. I will have to top up the
fountain and the bird bath.
Whilst this was going on muttly was stood on the decking staring at the birds. He is past chasing any thing these days. The two fat cats that patrol our front garden dont interest him any more. A walk to the end of the street in the mornings is enough.

Get out there and fire up the grill.
But seriously though . . . I can never understand why so many people in this country only barbecue when the sun is shining and it's roasting hot.
We use ours all year. With a remote thermometer (only about 30 quid) you can keep an eye on the temperature of both the meat and the grill itself from indoors, and dash out to tend the cooking only when necessary. I've built a little roof so it doesn't matter if it's raining, and even a foot of snow never stops us.
By "us" in that instance I really mean "me". Somehow the gaffer always seems to be required in the nice warm kitchen, putting the final touches to the sauce or warming the plates!!
Just ordered a 2kg brisket, so that will be on the charcoal bbq for 6 or 7 hours on Saturday. Lovely to eat at once, but cold in sandwiches it's superb.
Get out there Boaby and enjoy it!!

Re: Weather
That reminds me of our neighbours back around '85 to '95.
They had a blue Weber out in the garden and almost daily he'd whip out, light it and disappear inside. A while later he'd whip out again with a plate of makings, put them on the grill, close it up and disappear inside. Sometimes he'd appear again to turn the meat. Normally though he'd be out again to put it on a plate and disappear inside.
We never saw them eating outdoors, even on baking hot days. He'd often use an umbrella to tend the Weber, if raining.

Re: Weather
Yes Andy.
There's no need to stand there in your pinny, constantly fiddling as you watch the bangers and burgers catch fire! There's far more to barbecuing than that!
Have a look at Steven Raichlen on YouTube. He's an irritating, posing little plonker, but the visual presentation is excellent and I have to say he is very good at showing just how versatile a bbq can be.
We use ours about twice per week on average, and I freely admit I do enjoy it more when the sun is out. It was pizzas yesterday and they were delicious.

Re: Weather
Our BBQ will have to wait until next week when the Gas Man Delivereth.
Gorgeous weather here with really warm sunshine. What we really need however is RAIN. The garden is bone dry. In case anyone Up There is listening: gentle rain please, only at nights and drying up to sunshine and no wind during the day.

Judging by the number of cans of beans in the larder, no wind is going to be difficult.

This is the first winter and spring we haven't used our our bigger BBQ at home, it's been too cold and wet G Hogg along this coast.
When we are touring I usally grill up breakfast/lunch/ then evening meal on our Cadac, if I'm not BBQ ing , we like to heat up McIntosh microwave meals.

Aye, that's the one. It goes on in November and stays on until June Brightened up here and there's a decent forecast for the next few days so outside cooking is likely.
I charcoal BBQ, both at home and when we're away in the van. I have a portable for travelling, a couple (one small and the other large) at home as well as a Cobb. I prefer doing it in dry weather rather rain as it makes it difficult to finish my beer when the glass keeps filling up with water

Re: Weather
I thought spring weather was upon us but not today. It has been cold and grey here today. The heater had to go back on in the workshop this afternoon. Thinking it had warmed up I turned it off last night rather than turning the thermostat down. By lunch time it was quite chilly in there.
