Bathroom Tap
We are away at the moment and the cold tap in the bathroom turns but nothing happens it just spins round. How do I get the tap off and will it mean I just need a new tap ?
Thanks

Re: Bathroom Tap
My Sussex (Marquis Warwick Duo) us a 2010 so probably same tap. Ours was totally opposite in the fact that both hot and cold seized solid. New tap needed. Four small caps covering screws, remove those and the whole tap fitting lifts up.

Re: Bathroom Tap
Not sure if yours are the same as on our Pollensa; both the hot and cold bathroom tap knobs become loose every so often, to the point where the knob just turns as you've described. There's a blue/red plastic cap on the top which just prises off to reveal a cross-headed screw. I tighten this up and all is well for a few months, then they gradually loosen again. I'm thinking of trying a drop of waterproof glue to see if that stops it. I don't want to use Loctite in case I ever need to remove them.
Edit: PS I always try to remember to put the plug in the sink first as I wouldn't want the screws or caps to drop down the waste pipe!

Re: Bathroom Tap
If you go on Leisure Spares website they have exploded views of the taps so you may be able to tell how they come apart. Mine were seized solid, wouldn't turn in either direction so whole tap replaced.

Hi Paul,I need to replace the whole unit as you did,is it just a mater of undoing the 4 screws on the top plate lifting it all out and disconnecting the water pipes.Paulmold wrote:If you go on Leisure Spares website they have exploded views of the taps so you may be able to tell how they come apart. Re: Bathroom Tap
If it is the same as on my Nuevo you unscrew the lever from the head that rocks and turns. You then need a small tamperproof torx screwdriver to undo the torx style allen key that is buried within the head. Then th etop comes of revealing a brass nut below within a chromed and domed collar. Remove collar and nut to release the cartridge being careful about th erubber seal below the cartridge. On my Nuevo I then had to remove the access panelon the back of the swing wall of the shower to get at the securing nut that holds the tap unit to the sink - that was only finger tight while the tap nut was over-tight. I actually solved my similar problem only today by disassemblin and reassembling, tightening th etap to th ebasin and NOT over-tightening the nut under the tap head. PM me if you want further info.

It would so much easier if a picture could be posted with any request for advice or help. Such as this tap. Also year and model will help you get a better, quicker response if mentioned in the original post, rather than many who are trying to help can only guess or look at your profile. Just saying.

Re: Bathroom Tap
I sent an email to Leasure shop direct telling them my problem and they suggested it was the shaft on the tap had broken so i have ordered 2 new taps( you can only buy in pairs)
So hopefully that solves the problem and they are easy to replace.
thank you for your replies

Re: Bathroom Tap
I had a problem with a very stiff cold water tap. In the end it sheared but fortunately I managed to stop it leaking water until we got back home.
I tried to fix it but in the end there is no solution but to purchase a completely new mixer tap and spout unit (hot and cold) manufactured by Whale (see their web site).
Remove the four plastic cover caps to reveal the four screws, remove screws and gently prise free the base of the tap unit from the sink unit. Lift upwards to free bringing the water pipes with it still attached. If I remember the water pipes came horizontally from the left hand side rather than vertically from below so its a bit of a fiddle to lift the tap unit far enough away to get at the pipe connectors. Tie the pipe ends with string and secure to something nearby so that the pipes do not disappear behind the sink unit once disconnected. The pipes are the quick release type with rubber 'O' ring so easy to disconnect and reconnect.
Once the mixer tap unit is removed it is possible to take the whole thing apart so you become aware of how it works, an interesting exercise!
Install new mixer tap unit by reconnecting the push fit pipe ends. Once pipes are connected turn on water pump and test the tap before fixing back in place so you are confident there are no leaks. Assuming no leaks re-seat the mixer tap unit to the base of the sink unit and replace the four screws and plastic caps. Test again so you can gloat over a job well done.
