Autosleepers Duetto Kitchen Tap Empty Autosleepers Duetto Kitchen Tap

In our 1998 Duetto the worktop covers the whole of the kitchen sink and drainer. This means that the tap has to be low down, so that you need to fill a kettle with a mug. Later versions I believe had the worktop cut away and part folded over so that it cleared the tap when lifted. Has anyone sorted this problem??

Hi Pete.

The tap in my Exec is under the worktop but the outlet spout lifts up when the worktop is stood up. It is then high enough to get the kettle under. Yours should be the same type of tap unless its been changed to a deck mounted type at some time.

Peter,

I can nearly get a bucket under the spout on "Petal" so I dread to think how big your kettle is! wave wave

I suggest that you buy a lower kettle. hugegrins hugegrins

Yer some boy Dutto !!!

Does your tap go through the worktop? Or does it lift up? Or as mine is it fixed underneath?

Peter,

It's a spout between the two taps that folds/rolls over and down into the sink when I shut the work-top. allthumbz

Have you tried filling the kettle with the shower attachment? Mine reaches as far as the sink easily. wave

Incidentally, we have no kettle as it falls foul of our "ruthless" policy of what we have onboard. We have a cafeteria for coffee AND tea - just change what we stick in the container (ground coffee or a couple of tea bags)! I don't notice any change in taste using it for a dual-purpose, but after years of working in places like India and Arabia, my taste buds are probably shot!! think_smiley_46 think_smiley_46

Dutto

My tap is the same as yours except it doesn't roll up. At the moment we fill from the washroom when its free. Anyhow maybe its seized, I'm at home at the moment so I will check it out tomorrow.
Cheers

Cyclops, will the spout 'pull' upwards?
The idea is you push it down and close the worktop and 'pull' it up when you want to use the sink.

Maybe if yours hasn't been used for a long time it could have scaled up. Maybe a gentle working up and down may free it up?

Good point!

I had to slack off the unions on my spout to get it to move. (God that sounds sexy, but you know what I mean!!!) allthumbz

Hi
I've slackened off my unions and the tap now moves OK!!! I haven't any water in the system yet so I don't know if it will leak. Thanks for your help

Don't leave them too loose or they WILL leak.
Just tighten enough so that you can feel a bit of friction when you move the tap.
On my Harmony, the same tap arrangement is in the washroom tip-up sink unit as well!

Glad you got it sorted.

Peter,

Sorry to "mock the afflicted" and all that - but the thought of you trying to fill a kettle with the spout pointing to the back of the sink just had me in stitches! lol4 lol4

Glad the problem's solved - that's the main thing! allthumbz

When you pressure up the system there is an off-chance that the unions on the spout will offer the option of leaking or (with unions suitably tightened to stop the leak) sticking.

If this happens then depressurise the system, slack off unions completely and put a small dollop of plumber's putty (aka paste) on the pivot point and the threads. Then gently tighten up the unions until the spout just stops moving freely and start the pump. The water pressure should force the putty into any small gaps and stop the leak; and then slacking off the unions a gnats whisker should allow free movement of the spout without the leak coming back.

The only problem with this is that you only need a tiny scrape of the putty to stop the leak; and they sell it in fairly large pots!! Good news is that it isn't expensive. up!

Best of luck and best regards,

drinksallround
